If Kendrick Green survives cuts tomorrow then we RIOT

  • Aug. 30: By 4:00 p.m. ET teams must reduce their active rosters to 53 players.

Khan & Tomlin have their work cut out for them today... Really tough decisions needs to be made on some current groups, and they really need to find better players at OL & possibly S.

Just out of curiosity I want to see what everyone's early thoughts are.

OFFENSE - (25 total)
QB (3) - Trubisky, Pickens, Rudolph
OL (9) - Daniels, Dotson, Moore Jr, Okorafor, Cole, Hassenauer, Green, Leglue, Haeg
RB (4) - Harris, Snell, McFarland, Heyward (RB/FB)
WR (6) - Johnson, Claypool, Pickens, Austin, Boykin, Miller
TE (3) - Freiermuth, Gentry, Rader/Sternberger

DEFENSE - (25 total)
DL (6) - Heyward, Alualu, Wormley, Leal, Loudermilk, Adams
OLB (4) - Watt, Highsmith, Avery, Tuszka
ILB (4) - Bush, Jack, Spillane, Johnson
CB (6) - Wallace, Witherspoon, Sutton, Maulet, Pierre, Layne
S (5) - Fitzpatrick, Edmunds, Norwood, Kazee, Killebrew

SPECIALIST - (3 total)
K - Boswell
P - Harvin
LS - Kuntz

Some thoughts
QB... If they can find a suitor then I think they trade Rudolph & keep Oladokun.

RB... Would love to see Durant or Warren shake things up in the depth chart, but for now I think the only shakeup is Heyward replacing Watt at FB. But he may actually end up replacing Snell & Watt sticks around.

WR... Knocking Olszewski off simply because he's not going to have an impact on the depth chart outside of return specialist, and I think Austin steals that spot. Gunner is too expensive for being a fairly arbitrary contributor to the team.

DL... Would love to see Tuitt back but it looks less & less likely by the week. Saying he wants to play, but sold his house months ago & isn't with the team during voluntary workouts... Not to mention Colbert said he's STILL dealing with a knee injury after taking a full season off. Just doesn't add up to any sort of optimism about his return.

DB... No surprises here, unless you count cutting Karl Joseph. Hard to see where he fits into the equation with all the talent they acquired on the backend. Still time to sign someone in the CB room. Maybe Haden returns after all.
Revisiting now that camp & preseason is over...

OFFENSE - (25 total)

QB (3)
- Trubisky, Pickens, Rudolph
Still a glimmer of hope that they trade Rudolph.

OL (9) - Daniels, Dotson, Moore Jr, Okorafor, Cole, Hassenauer, Green, Leglue, Haeg, Warm Body
If Green survives then I'll be floored. Dude should be in the CFL or USFL. Problem is, they don't really have anyone else. Praying they find someone in FA or during cuts.

RB (4) - Harris, Snell, McFarland, Warren
Moved Heyward down to TE and replaced him with Warren here.

WR (6) - Johnson, Claypool, Pickens, Austin, Boykin, Miller, Olszewski
Really don't like cutting Simms but I don't see how you can justify him over any of the others here. Olszewski looks like a Welker type stud that can be the return guy too if Austin can't stay healthy. If Austin goes on IR then they can keep Simms, but last I heard CA3 was pretty close to being back.

TE (3) - Freiermuth, Gentry, Rader/Sternberger, Heyward
I think Rader sticks around on the PS like usual. Heyward can be used as a RB in a pinch, and may have a good gadget role in this offense.

DEFENSE - (25 total)

DL (6)
- Heyward, Alualu, Wormley, Leal, Loudermilk, Adams, Ogunjobi
Pretty easy decision here since Adams hasn't been healthy. I like Carlos Davis but he just doesn't have the consistency to displace anybody. Hopefully they can stash him. Really love what I've been seeing from Leal. Dude was a steal in the draft.

OLB (4) - Watt, Highsmith, Avery, Tuszka, Hamilcar/Scott
Avery was a surprise cut. Now what do they do? Hamilcar & Scott have flashed some good play, but I doubt they feel confident in this depth right now. Hopefully they play cuts roulette & find some help to at least replace Tuszka.

ILB (4) - Bush, Jack, Spillane, Johnson, Robinson
Really not wanting to keep Bush, but I think they have to at this point. Robinson is an EASY lock now. Dude is a Vince Williams type player and I'm very excited for him. Hopefully we get to see him play alongside Jack at some point.

CB (6) - Wallace, Witherspoon, Sutton, Maulet, Pierre, Layne
I had some hope for Steele at the start of camp, but he cooled off & didn't show much in preseason. Not exactly enthused by Wallace. 'Spoon & Sutton look like the best options right now, but Wallace will certainly be given ample opportunity. Layne survives cuts once again, unless the versatile Stephens unseats him. Not sure what the status is on Maulet since his injury.

S (5) - Fitzpatrick, Edmunds, Norwood, Kazee, Killebrew, Warm Body
Kazee's injury timing is very unfortunate. I suspect they will keep him on the 53 for the 24 hour window to secure his IR-recall status before they make a move. But what do they do to fill the void? Killebrew hasn't been healthy at all since the start of camp, and the only other player they have with S ability outside of Norwood is Maulet, Stephens & newcomers Riley & Platel. Karl Joseph would have been a shoe-in but he has already been shelved on IR. Look for them to make a move here.

Tomlin ego gets in the way and never can be wrong about draft picks.

LeGlue absolutely belongs on this team more than Green.

Need to cut 4 by 4pm... And then put Kazee on IR tomorrow to avoid shelving him for the entire season.
