I thought it would be fun to see what people's pre training camp 53 man projection is. We can re-do this at the end of training camp to see what has changed. This was really hard and I didn't end up with a lot of rookies making it based on overall roster strength. I also don't love 3RB but other position groups were so much stronger and the numbers just don't add up. Both the OL and DL were had to determine the bottom end of those with the numbers games. Finally, it was very difficult to account for special teamers and how that all fits. Here is mine. Would love to see what others think during this boring time of the football year.

Offense: 23

QB – 2 – Wilson and Johnson

RB – 3 – Williams, Gordon, Boone

WR – 6 - Sutton, Patrick, Jeudy, Hamler, Hinton, Washington

TE – 4 – Albert O, Dulcich, Beck, Tomlinson

OL – 8 – Bolles, Anderson, Turner, Risner, Cushenberry, Glasgow, Meinerz, Compton.

Defense – 27

DL – 6 – Jones, Williams, DJ Jones, Uwazurike, McTelvin, Hennigsen

ILB – 4 – Jewell, Griffith, Singleton, Wade

OLB – 7 – Chubb, Gregory, Bonitto, Reed, Browning, Cooper, Patrick

CB – 6 – Surtain, Darby, Williams, Ojemudia, Mathis, Bless

Safety – 4 – Simons, Jackson, Sterns, Turner Yell,

ST – 3 – McManus, Martin, Bobnmoyer

A couple of objections here -

Purcell makes and McTelvin doesn't.

5- Safeties - Simmons, Jackson. PJ Lock, Sterns and Turner Yell
5- CBs - Bless doesn't make it and Caden Stearns doubles up as a
cb/S

The reason I didn't include Purcell is if the competition is even close cutting or trading Purcell is a $3.5Million cap savings with only $750,000 dead cap the next two years. Purcell could be indispensable though. if McTelvin doesn't progress.

I could also see the 5 safeties, but I am just not sure PJ Lock will warrant a spot and Bless plays boundary CB and ST so it gives 4 players that can play boundary corner and have experience there.

I included Purcell because Hackett wants to stop the run game - which killed the Broncos multiple times while Purcell was injured. Lock is a top ST performer.

The Oline has a lot of depth and it was hard not to keep him, but with the RT spot a little up in the air I went with 4 tackles 4 interior who have versatility. Even though Hackett has spoken highly of him, not sure if he fits with the outsize zone as well as the others.

Would love to see someone else post their predictions.

Frankly the Broncos have more than 8 NFL Olinemen- not of all-star caliber, but legit NFL linemen. So, injuries are covered for training camp and if healthy there will be some trades for day 3 picks.

I suspect training camp will create 3-5 IR spots out of any 53-man roster predictions made now.

Agreed with the IR spots, hopefully it isn't to major contributors and is limited. Looking at the number game really hammered home our OL depth this year which is very nice to see. Probably a futile effort at this time of the year, but still a fun exercise during the slow time.

Alright I'll give this a shot.

QB--Wilson, Johnson...I think Rypien can be stuck on the PS and be just fine. (2)
RB--Williams, Gordon, Boone (3)
WR--Sutton, Jeudy, Patrick, Hamler, Washington, Fulgham (6)
TE--Okwuegbunam, Dulcich, Tomlinson, Saubert (4)
OT--Bolles, Turner, Anderson, Compton (4)
Guard--Muti, Meinerz, Glasgow (3)
Center--Cushenberry, Wattenberg (2)

(24 on offense)

DL--Jones, Jones, Purcell, Agim, Uwazurike, Williams (6)
Edge--Chubb, Gregory, Bonitto, Browning, Cooper, Allen (6)
LB--Jewell, Griffith, Strnad, Singleton (4)
CB--Surtain, Darby, Williams, Mathis, Ojemudia (5)
Safety--Simmons, Jackson, Sterns, Turner-Yell, Locke (5)

(26 on defense)

Specialist (3)
Kicker--McManus
Punter--Martin
LS--Bobenmoyer

Obviously have a few surprises on my list of not making it. Dalton Risner I think will be traded before the season kicks off. He and the OL coach do not get along. Honestly Risner and many of his teammates don't get along. I think he needs a fresh start and the team likes some of their other players better.

Reed gone as well. Broncos were not huge on bringing him back and I think barring injuries others will beat him out with a higher ceiling.

Player that I picked that I am least confident in at this point is Strnad. He was so bad last year, but I still like some of his upside so maybe last year was a bit of a wake up call for him.

Muti in the wide-zone blocking scheme might not be a scheme fit and could be trade bait because of it, but I still think he's better than Glasgow and Risner.

Interesting take on Risner. He wasn't great last year, but I think this scheme could fit him better. If he is not liked that could be an issue though.

Hmmm. I have heard the exact opposite on Risner. While I could see him being traded because he will be in his contract year and really hasn't been that good the past two years, he seems to be one of the favorite teammates from the players I personally know. I suppose it depends on who you ask but he seems very close to teammates and is often brought up amongst his teammates (in a good way).... That being said I think he has one of the highest probability rates of being traded during/after camp on our roster and I doubt we get much in return for him. Given one year left on his contract and he has sorta regressed oppose to progressed. Could be a nice depth guy though with starting experience if needed in that role.

Sorry, I still haven't posted my 53 man roster projection and not that anyone cares...

I will here soon. Building a deck this weekend then heading to MPLS then getting a wisdom tooth pulled so you might get it by the end of July! ;)

I can tell you Risner has not been liked from the beginning. He didn't get along with the last coaching staff and hasn't started off well with this one. Just look at pictures from his wedding recently and I still haven't found a picture of a teammate being at his wedding. I do agree though that this scheme is a better fit for his skill set so hoping that means he can emerge and be a good player for the Broncos.

He is not a perfect fit but I think because you have decent athleticism around him it can still work. Bolles and Cushenberry can help make up for it and with Muti's power he can still bring a lot to the table. It also sounds like Muti has slimmed down some to better fit this scheme so going to be interesting to see him at camp and how he looks.

I think about the Eagles when they were running this scheme a few years ago. Brandon Brooks was a bigger guy and not the quickest of feet. They had him between two very athletic players and they made it work well. Hoping maybe something similar with Muti.

I'm going out on a limb and predicting we keep 52 men on the roster.

Surtain is enough man for two people. (I'm looking at you, OC and DC...
