This move would put the Flyers over the top. I would be shocked if the Preds didn't match. Wild card is if Weber even wants to play in Nashville anymore

ok since Nashville can still work a trade does it have to be with Philly. I would thnk so but if Nashville could trade him to another team it would be hilarious.

they cant i dont think.. its nashville or philly for weber, for the next 14 years.

actually.. what happens if the preds trade weber to philly now? can weber decide he doesn't want that contract? it'd be a dick move obviously, but could he technically?

because technically if the preds traded him now, they'd be trading his rights.. would that offer sheet be traded too? hence, making the flyers have to 'match themselves'?

nevermind.. apparently rule 10.3 states that once an offer sheet is signed, it is either matched, or the player signs with the new team. a trade cannot be transacted.

if it were to end up as the flyers trading for weber, it'd be a two step deal where nashville declines to match, weber signs in philly, the preds get 4 first round picks, and then trades some (or all of them) back to philly for other parts

This would completely screw over Nashville if they can't match. If they can, it may be a blessing in disguise. They have their wish of locking up Weber for the rest of his career.

After we moved Staal, I kind of accepted that he would land there. The eventual cap issues were obvious. I really thought that Detroit would grab him next year.

Is it too soon to point out how last year's arbitration may have lead to this?

I think a big wild card in all of this is Webers wishes. He may have told Nashville he wants out.

Agreed, but isn't he forced to sign if the Preds match? If they do, I feel like it'll be Rick Nash 2.0 for the coming years.

BTW, unless Weber plays goalie, I am not overly concerned about this signing.

Not to be a wet blanket, but.....

The wettest. Still, I'd put Philly at the top of my contenders list for this year if this happens.

This also makes me wonder how long Rinne is in for. Will he follow the same route as his captain and alternate captain?

Bryzgalov in March: 10-2-1, 1.43 GAA, .947 save percentage, four shutouts.

then he broke his foot.

he has it in him.

Spending $26M in one calendar yr, NSH would be forking over 16% of entire franchise net worth ($163M in '11 accd to Forbes) to match offer

He signed a 7 year extension, so that's not a worry for them for awhile.

Man, I didn't hear a THING about this last night before bed, wow.
