Yes.

The rule prohibits you from kicking the puck on purpose with a "distinct" kicking motion. You are supposed to be able to angle your skate and direct the puck in, you just can't kick at it. He didn't kick, at worst he angled his foot.

Not much of a conspiracy theorist but if I was to put my tinfoil hat on, here's what I'd think.

The league might prefer the idea of McDavid advancing but I'd have thought they'd like to see this series extended first. Oilers would have 2 more shots at it, but I guess they don't want to risk it.

Absolutely brutal call no matter what though. If there isn't a conspiracy then at this point the league must be pulling for the Flames to win depiste the awful call. It will be forgotten much sooner that way.
