Honestly I really wanted Bogaerts, but yeah I'd want nothing to do with the contract the Padres paid him.Agree it made them gun shy, but the thing with Cano was the Mariners overpaid but they were the only competition for Cano at anywhere near that so they bid against themselves, then screwed the next year after I can’t remember which when they didn’t sign Nelson Cruz. The Mariners being smart is a good thing, but “being too smart” for your own good isn’t and that’s where they seem to be.
Though I definitely am cool with them not touching that contract with Boegarts. But Swanson is worth it
I get people saying M's are gun shy after Cano deal but Cano deal never hurt them. The biggest issue with the Cano deal is that they din't build around it. It was one and done until getting Cruz who was a bit unwanted by some because of his past. Our payroll with Cano never crippled the club it just scared ownership which I don't understand because when was the last time an owner lost money in baseball? Not in the last 50-60 years I would guess.Agree it made them gun shy, but the thing with Cano was the Mariners overpaid but they were the only competition for Cano at anywhere near that so they bid against themselves, then screwed the next year after I can’t remember which when they didn’t sign Nelson Cruz. It didn’t hamper them, just like nothing would. But it was the first in my lifetime I heard so much about having 2 guys making that much money hurts the club. I know the 95 club had the Tino issue or whatever when they actually were a mid market team but it was just weird that we heard so much about Felix and Cano’s contracts like it was cost prohibitive.I get people saying M's are gun shy after Cano deal but Cano deal never hurt them. With all that said, why not sign these B free agents? You telling me Bassitt isn't better than our #5 guys? He signed a 3 year deal and for average veteran money by todays standards. Oh well.
If the Padres can lock up Soto I think they will dethrone the Astros as the team everyone is hunting. Their MLB roster is pretty stacked and they still have a killer farm system. The Mariners made the big Castillo trade and now their farm system is still rated highly but they don’t have horses. The Padres made the Soto deal and still have enough guys to make another big trade.Honestly I really wanted Bogaerts, but yeah I'd want nothing to do with the contract the Padres paid him.
They've really overbid on a lot of free agents this winter and unless ownership is willing to continue spending money, I don't know how effective of an approach it will be. Apparently they offered Judge 10 years $400m... As incredible as Judge is, he has had what? Two fully healthy seasons? That's a huge commitment to give to a guy who is on the wrong side of 30 and is a sure bet to miss time here and there.
I don't think Judge will have a Stanton-esque decline, but it's worth noting that they're both very similar players and he has fallen off a lot since turning 30.
Also..that..is..the potential.So really..it's in between..
Cuz..you can make it.
To Seattle...and even back.
But it would take all day..
But because..Portland..
Has no teams...baseball.
Or football...
They by default...are Seattle..fans .but.a lot of.
People...in Portland..also.
Do buisness .or..have lived..in the Seattle area.
So...
Yeah that does not include..Alaska..either.
Which..there are mariners fans..there..yeah...many locations...are..fairly ..remote....lolllol
