Season is not over but yes it is close. The best we can do regular season is 10 - 2. Now that is not bad but it is not what I hope for this team to be.

We cannot seem to take that next step to make us a legitimate contender. And what makes it even worse is the fact that our losses are normally games that we don't show up for.

Now I wouldn't say we didn't show up for this game except for one thing. A 3 point loss is not bad unless it is against Northwestern.

We were out coached and our defense shut down when we needed it the most. Both these do not happen to contenders.

It's not the worse thing to happen, there are lots of worse teams than ours and better teams that I still wouldn't want to be a fan of.

I understand there are a lot of extenuating circumstances also but none I believe explain the coaching we saw defensively or the shut down we saw from the defense at the end of the game.

We are Nebraska. We are supposed to be physical. We are supposed to wear down opposing offenses and defenses not the opposite. We also should have offensive lines that regularly push the line and bust open holes for our backs.

I know we saw miraculous improvement immediately upon Bo's arrival and I hate to say it because I am not abandoning ship yet but we are four years into the Pelini era and basically aside from Suh, that is what I am still waiting to see at a level that takes us to the next step - championship contenders.

Problems that need to be corrected in order to have consistent success: In no particular order...

1. Vs. PSU Bring 8 guys in the box all game & force them to throw.
2. Vs. PSU Pistol/I formation 60% of the snaps & get others involved in the running game. Also when in shotgun, try using the speed guys in their "jet" motion option plays. We've handed the ball off to Burkhead 100% of the time this year on that play. I'd love to see Green/Heard/Abullah get out on the edge with that play.
3. Vs. Mich Rush 4 & don't penetrate w/the front 4. Force shoelace to throw the fucking ball. If you send pressure, be sure it's a backer or secondary player who can catch him.
4. RUN RUN RUN OPTION PASS RUN RUN OPTION PASS...ETC...
5. Vs. Iowa Dennard on McNutt ALL DAY, wherever he goes.
6. See 5 & put 8 in the box ALL DAY.
7. Pressure the FUCK out of Vandenburg...watched him since his HS days in Keokuk, he'll get frazzled on the road.
8. RUN RUN RUN OPTION PASS RUN RUN OPTION PASS...ETC...

We do those 8 things, we win out.

BEAT PENN STATE. That is all.
^^^^ repped

All that we can control is win this week vs. PSU:pray:. Then worry next week about Mich:pray:. Then Turkey week worry about that Iowa and the "trophy game" with them:pray:.

Then we watch the other games. The B1G season is like a huge playoff. Every week is an important game.

Yea, we can say what we want about the players not doing this or that..........it all points back to the coaching staff when the players come out flat like this in this type of game.

I love Coach Pelini to death, but he must know that it is something that he is or isn't doing that is causing his team to have letdowns like this. Meanwhile there are other teams around the country who manage to get up for every game, and when they get beat, it's because they are losing to really good football teams.

Pelini says over and over and over again "this is just another game, we're approaching it like any other game"..............I'm not sure if he is seriously believing that or what the deal is...........but each year we have lost a game we shouldn't have lost. Somewhere along the line during the week leading up to these games that we flop in, the overall mindset is not where it needs to be.

Even Rex this week was not his normal self. Can't expect these kids to play flawlessly every single week........but I didn't see the effort out there that we should have seen. I saw Taylor going hard, I saw Kinnie going hard, Bell, and Cotton............aside from those 4 guys, I didn't see much. Though I thought Steinkuhler played pretty hard too.

I imagine the reason Burkhead was not his usual self was because he was still beat up from the previous week. That guy takes a pounding and just keeps on pounding back. He had to be hurting. Overall other than a few bad reads I thought Taylor did a great job, especially his passing efficiency.

Our line was pushed around again.

Our secondary was non-existant again and we were outnumbered at the line again.

I think our major flaw was lack of motivation and defensive scheming.

Actually when I re-think the game the motivation it may not of been that much of a factor until fourth quarter. This was a game where I felt we made mistakes but didn't doubt the outcome until fourth quarter when it was evident that we could not stop them from driving.

Our defense gave up.

I shouldn't have left Lavonte David out..........really that guy just plain brings it every week. He had 11 tackles once again, which I'm sure had to have led the team this week. Plus he was Johnny on the spot with that interception.

The Offensive line really played some uninspired football when it all comes down to it.

It's really sad that the week before this game, Indiana put up 319 rushing yards on that Northwestern Defense................and then Nebraska puts up 122 rushing yards on that same defense.

Makes me sick.....seriously.

This is not directed at JJM or BRS since they aren't the first people to bring this up. We didn't come out flat, we didn't overlook them and we didn't screw up. There is a formula to give your team a chance to beat us. If you have a mobile qb, if you follow the formula, you are almost assured of beating us. Northwestern followed the formula and beat us. We have always been known as a fanbase that wins and loses with class. They didn't take advantage of a team overlooking them, Northwestern beat us. End.

I'm not so warm and fuzzy about losing David and Dennard out of our already over matched Defense after this season

1. I Never said we came out anything except "it appeared we did not come out ready to play" (Mental mistakes)
2. I Never said we over looked them
3. Yes, mobile qbs have given us fits
4. You are wrong, we made huge mistakes on how we covered "D gap" on the 80yd td they made... mental mistakes cost us. We missed blocks that we have covered over and over... As good as TM played, he made some mis-reads and should have checked out of the play when and if he was given the option to do so.
5.We never made adjustments in 2nd half when playing against Colter rather than Persa.
6.When we did have 6 in the box, they often split out 4 wides which caused us to change players at positions... because of injuries we are dealing with. Although this was not a mistake.. it put us in bad situation (Kudo's for them being smart enough to know this).
END!
