Season is not over but yes it is close. The best we can do regular season is 10 - 2. Now that is not bad but it is not what I hope for this team to be.
We cannot seem to take that next step to make us a legitimate contender. And what makes it even worse is the fact that our losses are normally games that we don't show up for.
Now I wouldn't say we didn't show up for this game except for one thing. A 3 point loss is not bad unless it is against Northwestern.
We were out coached and our defense shut down when we needed it the most. Both these do not happen to contenders.
It's not the worse thing to happen, there are lots of worse teams than ours and better teams that I still wouldn't want to be a fan of.
I understand there are a lot of extenuating circumstances also but none I believe explain the coaching we saw defensively or the shut down we saw from the defense at the end of the game.
We are Nebraska. We are supposed to be physical. We are supposed to wear down opposing offenses and defenses not the opposite. We also should have offensive lines that regularly push the line and bust open holes for our backs.
I know we saw miraculous improvement immediately upon Bo's arrival and I hate to say it because I am not abandoning ship yet but we are four years into the Pelini era and basically aside from Suh, that is what I am still waiting to see at a level that takes us to the next step - championship contenders.
