Who was on their team those two years?

Haha. You're funny. Stram was washed up and some think a bit insane by the time he was In new Orleans. Mike Shanahan will end up in the coaching hof also but i doubt you would find many people that would say he has been a great coach in Washington

Belichick, the Harb'brothers, Tomlin & Payton are my top 5 right now (Coughlin before his decline), but Pete Carroll has a chance to make his mark this postseason.

No way is Tomlin top 10. He took over a Super Bowl team and has successfully driven it into the ground. I like the guy but he's not a top tier coach.

sub Lane Kiffin for Sean Payton, you would have similar results

stupidest thing I've read on here in quite some time. You need to stop being such a troll.

As for Peyton, he is a very good coach and one of the better ones in the game today. Like every successful coach though, he has to have the right players to implement what he is coaching. No coach is great without good players and few great players are great without good coaching. His game plan didn't work last night so one bad game now means he isn't any good? The guy has a great mind for offense and is an excellent motivator. The proof is in the pudding. The Saints without him were cellar dwellers and with him are perennial contenders.

:agree: The game had passed Schram by when he went to New Orleans. As for Shanahan, I can't stand the guy and I think he was always somewhat over-rated anyway. He had a HOF QB and only won the big one when he got Terrell Davis. The last few years in Denver, he was average, at best. But yes, he will get to the HOF regardless.

Is the NFL that bad that people actually think of Payton as an elite coach?

Unless you're trolling, give me a reason why he's not an elite coach then I'll give you mine as to why I think he is.

Again, seriously.... you created a thread asking for opinions. :wtf2:

A lot like how Hammerdown started yet another of his Brees is overrated threads after today's MNF game with Saints losing big at Seattle. Brees is a top 5 all-time QB. Sean Payton was a mediocre OC with Eli. Like how Jason Garrett is a mediocre coach with Romo

Not even close. He's currently at best the 4th best qb in the NFL right now. Top 5 all time? You're out of your mind.

In defense of Shanahan, it's not like that HOF QB won a bunch of Super Bowls without him, and he was the one that drafted Davis and who's system allowed him to be a star. He also turned a bunch of no names into 1,000 yard rushers year after year.

His problem is defense; he seems to not have a clue on that side of the ball.

Seriously? Nobody takes over a SB team any more. There is so much turnover that no 2 teams are remotely the same. And he's won a SB & took his team to another in 6 years as a head coach.

And since when were the Steelers "into the ground"? The Steelers still are a good team. Roethlisberger was either injured a ton (last year) or his OL has been. They'll be fine once they get healthy.

Tomlin Wiil.i.am really? He inherited a SB team just like Chucky Grudin did in TB. I would replace him with Andy Reid. If I remember the Saints didnt do too well last year when Payton got suspended. Def top 5
