After a dismal three-game slide and anybody whose been a Rams Fan for any length of time totally mistrusting this organization and anything that comes out of Jeff Fisher's mouth or his coaching staff, the Rams managed to fight for a win to the very end. Even though they tried very hard to give the game away with a tired defense that put up little fight in a fourth-quarter Seattle drive and/or an offense that just went away in the third quarter and did not answer 16 points by the fourth quarter, the Rams hung on to win the game with a very bizarre ending.

It was actually the much maligned and forgotten special teams and coach John Fassel that pumped life into our points production that was rapidly dwindling with a fake punt and a great pass by Johnnie Hekker to a streaking Bennie Cunningham that sealed the deal and then Tre Mason almost gave the game away with a fumble with 47 seconds left on the clock when he had a first down and the game was won.

There was a huge pile and scrum for the fumbled ball by Mason and the game ended bizarrely without a review as the refs ruled that Harkey had recovered possession initially after the fumble only to have the ball squeak out to Richard Sherman. The play was not reviewed and Fox yanked the broadcast and moved onto another game at the behest of Carroll and the Seahawks. From the replay, it appeared Sherman had complete control but the ruling stood and the game was over. Many Rams fans agree, it is nice to watch someone else get screwed by the refs in a game changing fashion for a change instead of it always being the Rams.:yahoo:

On Offense. The Positives. On a day when we were expected to screw the pooch once again offensively, it was the O-line that emerged as the quiet hero. They blocked well as a unit all day, opening huge holes for Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason and they passed blocked quite well for Davis as they had zero penalties and they gave up zero sacks. This was amazing to watch. Barksdale, Saffold, Wells, Robinson, and Long looked damn good for a change. Kudos to those guys as they dominated Seattle's D-line all day long.

Davis had another good day making great decisions and he went 19 of 22 for 272 yards and two TDs with no INTs or fumbles. This was compared to Russell Wilson who had a killer day of going 23 for 36 for 313 yards and he ran for another 106 with a 52 yarder in the second half that just defied anything we were doing on defense. Tre Mason was high man in the rushing department going 18 carries for 85 yards followed by Benny Cunningham going 5 carries 46 yards. Tre Mason is an emerging star as he hits the hole with explosiveness and he was getting some great gains today. He did have one fumble at the end of the game. Tavon Austin had a decent day out of the backfield as well. Both Cunningham and Mason have apparently passed Stacy by as Stacy did not play today. We had a total yards of 272 to Seattle's 463 in the win. We were also 3 for 3 in the redzone today which is a definite improvement.

No wide receiver was high man in the pass catching category as that went to Benny Cunningham. The WRs as a group had some key catches such as Cook had two consecutive catches in a drive in the fourth quarter that netted points but they were used as a decoys for Benny Cunningham. Quick had a couple of clutch catches early on but Chris Givens had a 40 yarder late in the fourth quarter that led to points and a kept the offensive momentum going when we really needed it.

On Offense. The Negatives. The only negative was we did not score in the third period and we had just two penalties for 20 yards. WE have got to be more consistent and not die on our defense by continuing to generate consistent drives when we have the ball. Other than this, it was a damn good day on offense.

On Defense. The Positives. Today, the front four turned things around as they beat the crap out of Russell getting three sacks, pressuring him, knocking passes down, and beating on him when they had the chance until some miscues in the fourth quarter. Aaron Donald is a stud and a steal in the draft. Donald alone had a sack, and three tackles for losses. He is just too powerful and quick and Seattle's O-line held our D-line most of the day. Robert Quinn got his first sack of the year. Ernie Sims had a sack as well. Janoris Jenkins was high man on tackles with nine and he did not get beat at all today. Langford, Brockers, and Hayes also pressured Wilson and our run defense kept Lynch held to 18 carries for 53 yards. But they allowed Russell to rush for a 106 yards.

On Defense. The Negatives. We allowed Wilson to rush for 106 yards today which is nearly unheard of even though we held Lynch to just 53 yards. Our Linebacking Corp seems to have regressed as a unit and something is drastically wrong with Olgeltree. We also had metal lapses today in reads or something that were so blatant as to question whether the man was a legitimate draft choice. Alec Ogletree at times looked so lost and confused and he routinely got beat or took the wrong path to the ball carrier as to allow Russell to spring 52 yards on a play in the second half. He missed on stopping runners so many times that the announcers in the booth noticed that he was consistently out of position or missed assigments altogther like he was not mentally in the game. I guess Olgetree was this week's version of Janoris Jenkins or soemthing like that.:noidea:

On STs. The Positives. Special Teams Coach should be named Coach of the Week as he put together a fake that was so good, the cameraman and everyone in the stadium seemed to have bought it. What happened was apparently Fassel had noticed that the punts from the Seattle punter always ended up hooking to his left. So Fassel put Austin back to the punter's right and when the punt occurred, the return team shifted to their left (the punter's right) during the set-up and Austin appeared to be calling for a fair catch (which he did not do) sliding to the left, the punter's right. Meanwhile several of the punt return team peeled-off to their right (the punter's left where the ball went) along with Bailey and the punt veered to the punter's left as expected. Bailey caught the punt on the run and with three other Rams in escort, ran up the punter's left sideline and scored as the punt return team from Seattle all ran to the faking Austin on the punter's right. It was excellent to watch and even faked out the cameraman of all people.

Then the truely ballsy move came in the fourth quarter. Seattle had just scored making it 26-28 with 4 minutes left to play and Sherman blatantly held Austin on a sure three and out. We were on our 18 yard line and Hekker and the punt return team lined up for a punt. Hekker took the snap and whippedthe ball out to his left with a perfectly thrown pass to a streaking Bennie Cunningham for the first down and our drive was still alive. :yahoo: It was a great pass by Hekker right to Cunningham's hands we were in business. That's the kind of thing we all like to see from Fisher and the Rams and then to execute it to perfection was exquisite!!

On STs. The Negatives. There is nothing here to discuss as we had no penalties and the positives outweigh this section.

It is safe to say we are back in the hunt as we have broken through our failure to finish games. It took a lot of hutzpuh even with our attempt to give this game away but we finally persevered and now we are 2-4 and on we go to K.C. which is a definite winnable game if we play better than we played today. I know I'll be watching!!!:yahoo::lol:

Understandably so. I just hope Seahawk fans don't go around bitching about the refs. Having been forced to listen to Green Bay Packer fans bitch about the refs to this day, I understand how annoying that can be. The Rams outplayed the Seahawks and demonstrated that they are better than their record would indicate.

I like the win. But other than our ST play nothing has changed with the rest of our Team.

Once again we get off to an early lead. We play great in the first half and then blow it in the second. I don't know what it's going to take to finish out a game strong but Fisher and Co better figure it out soon.

Next week we have KC and they have a very dynamic offense, hopefully our 2nd half woes stopped tonight.

As fas as Olgeltree is concerned I think it's a coaching/scheme thing. He's obviously thinking too much on the field rather than just going out and playing. He proved last year he can play in the league he just needs to get used to the system.

Great write up as always Retro, a win is a win.

Blowing these big leads every week is getting tiresome, that is coaching or lack there of.

I'm sure that there's still quite a bit of their fan base that are still ticked off about the Super Bowl against Pittsburgh as well.

Kudos on an awesome win. Schotty had a nice game plan (for the most part).
That TD on the misdirection punt return by the Rams was a thing of beauty.
Pete Carroll looked like he was hyperventilating in total shock after getting mugged in broad daylight as a bunch of cops laughingly watched it go down...

Its pretty sad when the leading tackler for the day is a cornerback. That alone say tons about our LBing corp ! Where was our MLB all day?? I didnt hear his name called once! ....and how many tackles did he have?? Sure everyone is complaining about Ogeltree, but what about the other 2? What were their #'s for the day? This has to be fixed!!

It's funny how other teams seem to make adjustments at halftime, it's almost like they use halftime to figure out what went right and what went wrong!
Im thinking we must be using halftime to take a shit! But that can't be it, because we seem to be shitting all over the field in the second half. I don't know what we do at halftime, maybe they are all at the snack bar?

A win is a win, and its always better than a loss. And we can feel a little better now about this team for a week at least anyway. But a lot of you guys are accurately pointing out that the same problems still exist on this team and they were evident in the 2nd half, which IMHO does indeed again go back to the poor coaching in every area of this team. The special teams plays were pretty clever yesterday and got us the win. But that begs the question.....are we going to have to rely on trickery to overcome coaching stortcomings every week if we want to win? True, the special teams plays were coaching strategies, but do any of us remember the Rich Brooks era with that kind of strategy every game? How long did that last before it imploded?

Yep, be happy for the win. Just don't expect this to set a precedent. Lets not lose sight of the fact this is still a Fisher/Shottenheimer/Williams led production. We cover up the hemorrhaging for one week with a band-aide.

I'll take the win, but the fact remains that the coaching staff is too stupid to make the needed adjustments to keep the team firing on offense. Every 3rd quarter for the 3rd consecutive week the rams have came out flat, with bad drives along with stupid play calling which falls on the OC; and the idiot coach who allows him to continue to run the offense. ST deserves all the credit since they bailed out this team for the win; if the trick play hadn't been called we would have tried every bit to lose the game. Still haven't got my hopes up but i'll take the W.

I just think it's weird because the last two years with Fisher we haven't had to rely on trickery to win a game. Sure there were a couple of times that we pulled off some cool trick plays. Fake FG to Amendola, a couple of fake punts here and there. But EVERY team does that from time to time.
Like boss said we can't rely on it week and week out.
But going back to what I was saying earlier, I don't understand whats changed other than our Defense coord that has made us so ineffective in the second half. Especially the 3rd quarter.

Like teb I will be taking a break. lol I am sure it wont break anyone's heart. Its not because of the Rams or any one person. I just prefer a more positive atmosphere. Just cant get on the Rams bashing bandwagon. Good Luck guys. :suds:

Winning every game 75 to 0, may make us complain a little less. If you can win by 75, why not 100?

Those are the kind of discussions I would rather have. :suds:
