OOh well. Viewership equals rattings and rattings equal sponsership $$$.

This is no surprise. The good news though instead of 20k assembling in one arena that money will be spread out throughout the community so its a +.

Screw NBC and their greedy ways but I don't see this being too negitive for the fans, just find you a new place you like to watch the game. If you want to set with 20k+ other fans, buy a ticket.

It's just a cool thing for the away games. Viewing parties during away games makes you feel like you're actually there. Very fun atmosphere. Heck, when I went to the viewing party in '08 in Civic Arena we paid a small fee and proceeds went to the Lemieux foundation. That's worth it.

I can't remember where I heard it (radio or TV), but someone a week ago mentioned in the future how you'll probably have the arena open for away games and holograms of the players skating around the ice in real time. If every arena has the same specs, you can even show the refs, score keepers, guys on the bench, etc.

I thought, 'yeah, that will probably totally happen and it will be pretty freakin' awesome.'

The optics department here at the University of Arizona is actually in the process of developing real-time holograms. They've succeeded for simple images on some level, as well.

Yeah...that's actually interesting. It the environment that makes the game. If they can make the sounds similar, then they've got something.

Better than that. They could not only pipe in the audio, but they could have the home goal horn go off in the home arena, even when it wouldn't be at the visiting arena.

Also, if I owned a team, I would let fans buy a "Skate with the Pros" package, whereby a couple fans get to go out on the ice and pretend to play for the team (skate with the holograms) for a minute or two. Good entertainment for the home crowd as I'm sure there would be some mimicked shots for goals, some high cross checks to hated rivals, some gloves dropped, etc.
