Just read this:

Bellinger
sought: $200m
got: $80m

Chapman
sought: $150m+
declined $100m+
got: $54m

Snell
sought $300m
declined: $168m
got: $62m

Martinez
sought: $50m+
declined: $15m
got: $12m

Montgomery
sought $170m+
got $25m
Love it but to be fair, none of those guys are top shelf talent with no flaws like an Ohtani. All have risk, the market said sorry we're not ponying up for kinda good players. We will for Ohtani.

It was posted a while back

Based on total baseball revenue

I think it was for last year cause it was talked about with the new cba

It should’ve been 300m last year
I’ll have to look into that cause that makes no sense when the NFL revenues are higher and has a higher number of players.

I still say a cap coupled with a minimum spend would go a long way

Grandfather the ridiculous mega deals and sunset those. Cut a year off team control. Push more money to the middle.

Team control is the other big one.

for guys to get paid they need to hit FA earlier.

7 years is a long time. They really should tie the service time to when they're drafted so the teams have an incentive to get their best players up as early as possible.

LIke 8 years of control for a HS kid, 6 for a college guy.

Players are hitting FA at 26/27 rather than 30-32.

Do the Nats get insurance coverage on part or most of that? They could not have seen an immediate and total collapse like this.

I don’t think they were able to get insurance on that deal

Hence why they had the hold up here

Who is the second guy in "both"? It looks like they definitely dodged a bullet not keeping Rendon.

And Corbin

Lead the league in losses 3 straight years

Impressive in how bad that is

Rendon and stras

Letting Rendon go certainly worked out in their favor, but it's not like there were any red flags around his game at the time. He was coming off three consecutive seasons with a wRC+ north of 140 while being a pretty solid defender at an important position. He still looked like Rendon of old in his Angels debut in 2020 (152 wRC+). Obviously injuries have played a huge role in his decline, but that doesn't make it any less staggering to see someone play at an All-Star/MVP candidate level for several years and just tail off like that at age 30/31.

Doesn't mean the deal didn't age poorly.
Oh no

Just saying the timeline was off

He was already on the roster

The use from that Oct seems to have broken him
