Who does it?

Who hates it?

More annoying than rally towels, but not as annoying as fans who think that rooting for a more successful team means they're more knowledgeable or makes their opinion more valid than the next guy.

Count 1 for hate here.

Who does it? Bandwagoners are probably # 1. Blind homer fans are probably # 2.

On a very thinly related note, it is a lot more annoying to me than say Rickey Henderson, and his propensity to refer to himself in the 3rd person.

I do it sometimes without realizing... I dont like it, but isnt it the definition of a fan??? Shouldnt a fan consider himself in the community of that team??

it is also shorthand... If i am in a discussion, and it is obvious who i am talking about then it sometimes is easier to use the "we" instead of a shorthand of the team... it also sometimes emphasizes your arguments or point of view...

A fan can speak in terms of "we fans". But saying "we" in this way here, you are only setting yourself up for comments like "what/when did you get a hit/make a play/pitch a great game".

getting upset about we and us is right up there with correcting grammar/spelling on an internet message board

Used to hate it. Doesn't bother me anymore. I've noticed that when I'm talking about my college team, I use we. But with professional teams, I don't.

Yeah!!! We should just keep letting the stupid remain stupid.

I guess I am in the small minority that uses spelling and grammer to help me sort out who to follow and believe what they are saying, and who I can obviously avoid.

Different strokes.

I remember my buddies doing this and it drove me nuts and sounded so unnatural. Now I do it.

Try to avoid it, but sometimes I'll use it for brevity.

Edit:
Kinda like this :L:

it is also shorthand... If i am in a discussion, and it is obvious who i am talking about then it sometimes is easier to use the "we" instead of a shorthand of the team... it also sometimes emphasizes your arguments or point of view...

I say it, but don't think it. It's natural.

I guess for wisconsin, I can say it b/c I go here. Or if you're a packer fan and own any amount of shares ya can.

But yeah, it annoys me when people genuinely think they're part of the team.

Agreed, but you forget that we shorthand everything we say/write...

I have not recruited a single player to Ohio State
I have not coached a single player at Ohio State
I did not design the offense or call the plays for Ohio State

I watch them play and watch them win, they deserve all the credit, I contributed nothing to their success.

We however do lose together cause that hurts and I should have done something different to prevent any loss.

I don't think I'm part of them team. At least with the Padres and Titans, I just identify so closely with them that I.... well, maybe you're right. I almost do feel like I'm somehow connected to the team. I'm trying to come up with a way to explain how I feel, but I guess that's pretty much it.

They aren't. They're fans....sure they may effect the game environment, but they aren't part of the team.

creating a homefield advantage =/= part of the team

it's just a message board not a resume or business letter. typing your thoughts out as quickly as you can are part of the nature of the beast. misusing ellipses is fun too.....
