I was worried the guy was paralyzed. He slammed into those stanchions. Amazing that he's conscious and moving. Virtually every time I think an athlete could not possibly survive a hit, they prove much more durable than I thought possible.

Speedy recovery, Patch.

Chara: "Unfortunate when I pushed him that he leaned and jumped a little into the glass extension."

Uh...hmmm.

This is a terrible incident, but in my opinion, it's on the league's shoulders a great deal more than Chara's.

Some of you guys may be too young to remember this one. When i was in college ('87) maybe, the PA treasurer Budd Dwyer was sentenced for embezzlement. He was supposed to go to jail the following day. He called a press conference, which was broadcast live on the local ABC affiliate on the noon news. The dude whipped out a .357, stuck it in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Most disturbing thing i ever saw live.

The Filter song, "Hey Man, Nice Shot" was written about him.

I've seen the Bud Dwyer video online. I also read about the female newscaster who shot herself live too. I don't think I saw video of that? Maybe.

Oh god...I was doing research on something and I came across that video. I thought there was no way it'd be shown online...it was. So disturbing.

Please, I hate the Habs but dont wish this on any player. I hope Pac is not seriously injured and recovers quickly. But if Chara gets a suspension its fucking bullshit.

Sometimes I think it's best for players in this situation to just say publicly that they're sorry it turned out the way it did, and NOT try to rationalize it.

Budd Dwyer was from Meadville, PA, the city in which I go to school. Recent developments in the ongoing investigation are pointing toward his innocence in the case. A student in my journalism class was doing his senior project on uncovering the other side of the story, and it turns out Dwyer was charged on very little basis and sources close to him said that he was absolutely crushed at the lack of trust in him that had manifested.

Truly a shame.

"that wasn't my intention to push him into the post... I never try to hurt anyone. That's not my style. I hope he is okay" -Zdeno Chara

Little better...

It's important to note that hockey happens on every square inch of the ice, and checks are part of hockey. It wasn't so late that it could be considered out of line, and to time something like that up is nearly impossible going at that speed. I find it very highly unlikely that Chara intended for this to happen. In fact, it wouldn't have even been a penalty if the turnbuckle wasn't there.

The league needs to look into this. Simple tricks of engineering, like changing the shape of the shift from bench to glass to make it more gradual or simply adding more substantial padding, would at least help combat such incidents. Since it's happened before and just happened again, I would consider it lazy on the league's behalf to use Chara as the scape goat and suspend him rather than trying to make the rinks safer for the players.

I was only 3 but found the video with a quickness, and yes that is pretty damn disturbing.
