Mason Raymond is close to returning as well...

Always full of surprises when it comes to injuries, the Canucks welcomed defenceman Sami Salo to his first full practice with the club on Wednesday — well ahead of expectation.

Salo tore his Achilles tendon while playing floorball in mid-July and wasn’t expected back until late January or even beyond. He’s been skating on his own for some weeks and it’ll likely still be a while before he’s ready to play.

The Canucks will have to do some salary-cap magic to get him back on the roster, though. His contract is for $3.5 million and they are nearly at the cap ceiling already.

Raymond was back, dash, according to Dan Murphy. Ryan Parent the first casualty.

that's going to be interesting.
I really liked that Bieksa to Mtl for Jared Tinordi rumour that popped up in the pre-season.
Bieksa has actually been playing pretty well lately though. surprising, I know, but it's true.

worst thing that can happen is we dump a roster player to bring in Salo, and then he gets hurt again a week later.

are you fucken kidding me ... what is his deal ??? wrap this guy in bubble wrap ... there is no way they can trade bieksa when the first game Salo comes back he will probably be attacked by a panda bear on the ice

handyman stuff with a knife ???? what was he skinning a moose?

Sami Salo's long recovery from surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon has gone just about the way he expected.

Except for a recent visit to the emergency department at UBC Hospital.

Actually, that ER visit earlier this month had nothing to do with his Achilles tendon. Salo had to rush to hospital after cutting his left hand while doing some handyman work at his Vancouver home.

"It was nothing serious, I've recovered, and I just needed a few stitches," Salo said Wednesday. "Overall, it didn't set me back or anything."

Salo wouldn't divulge the specifics of his accident, other than to say he was doing some work around the house.

"These are the things that happen when you are a handyman," he said. "I was just doing some handyman stuff at home and the knife slipped. But it was nothing serious. It could have been worse. Four stitches."

It's probably a safe bet that Salo won't be replacing Tim Allen if they ever decide to do a remake of that Home Improvement television series.

LOL... Shall we have a pool for what injury Salo gets and in what game it will be?

I'll say he injures his shoulder in game 3.

holy shit really? cant we just waive him. get rid of the cap hit hes only going to get injured and cost us. I would rather lock in Bieksa for 2 more years.

that's the tough thing... Bieksa is seemingly the odd man out, because he is a UFA at the end of the year.
But so is Salo, and Salo is 7 years older.

as much as it's been tough to believe, Bieksa has been an asset in the past few months.

man, what depth we would have if we could fit them both in the roster.
Ballard - Ehrhoff
Bieksa - Hamhuis
Salo - Edler.

that's pretty much three #1 pairs right there.

It's funny how Bieksa has gone from whipping boy to "hey, he's all right" in just a few months.
