What would the narrative on Howell be if we had selected him in the first round and he had been sitting all year, came in and played like that?

Compare that to what picket has done in his 1st start ? Purdy ? Willis , Thompson? But mostly picket because he was a 1st rounder

Not to be argumentative but that’s how you compare his 1st start from his draft peers , add Zapke as well

Admittedly, I didnt watch any of the rookies first starts.

That being said, I would assume Purdy did well because he played well vs the commanders, and the niners are the three seed.

I assume Willis did not do well bc the Titans went with their third steinger with their season hanging in the balance, if I’m not mistaken.

I dint know who Thompson is.

Ridder got a start, yes? He didnt do great if I’m not mistaken otherwise he would have started more games.

Pickett did well this season, but not well in his first game.

Howell then did better than some and less that Purdy.

My point is, if he was our first round pick from last year and played like that, I don't think there would be all the we have to find QB1 going on.

Fact is he wasn't. He was a 5th for a reason. I just don't want the front office to use that against him. They picked him for a reason.

Still think this is true?
Yeah, for the most part. Everything everyone thought would happen, a terrifying Dallas rush, a serious beat down for the Skins, never came to pass. Howell looked good, but 1 game does not a legit NFL QB make.

Now had Howell started the GB game n had 11 games under his belt, that's be one thing. At the very least he made sure a roster spot will be available for him come the next OTAs,

I don't see how Ron can trust his head coaching career life to one game of Sam Howell. I do think he will be given a chance to compete for QB1, but they're bringing someone in here.

I think they resign Heinicke...just a hunch. There again, it is Rivera. If there are any former Panthers, they will be the first to get a call.

Even if they keep Heinicke Ron is bringing someone in here. He knows the chances of him ever getting another HC job are slim and none. He's not gonna trust his career to Heinicke and Howell.

No rookie QB had a good first start and realistically, they all disappointed. I will take Howell all day.

I wouldn't be so sure. This is the same person who weakened our OLine and brought in Trai Turner and Andrew Norwell as starters. This is also the same person who thought Jon Bostic and David Mayo constituted "depth" at linebacker.

The last 2 QBs who were Rivera's alleged starters (Fitz and Wentz) will likely be out of the league the year after being brought in by Rivera.

What I am trying to say is that what is common sense to do and what Rivera actually does are often 2 different things entirely. The words "trust" and "Rivera" do not belong in the same sentence when it comes to this organization. The thought that we are "close" literally makes no sense to me. If you get 4 new starters on the OLine, a new CB, a new starting TE, and a new starting QB...yes, we are close. Throw in a new HC, and OC....plus a new owner....we are even closer.

Well he said after the game that the team needs to find QB1.

What if Howell is the real deal and we trade picks for QBx, spend 35m or reach for a QB when you are gonna have a legit chance to grab a shutdown corner @16 and drop him into a top 3 defense?

And you trust him to do that...find a starting QB? So it will be year 4 before he finds his starting QB? Offensive talent acquisition is NOT Rivera's calling card.

We don't have a top 3 defense per the numbers. We are tied for 7th/8th with Philly. A shutdown corner will help but keep in mind that we were 4th in passing yards per game but 11th against the run yards per game. We still need to address LB and an upgrade over Holcomb would be welcome.
