Yes that is correct. Suh has that $9.? million and Houston's cap hits of dead money was split into two seasons. Read how dead escalates for different reasons. Injuries and cutting a player outright and such. Some come due immediately and some you still get to split up.
I think Houstons cap hit in full would have put the Lions over the cap last year or too close to be able sign others after injuries or what have you. (Prater??) If not bad decisions possibly by splitting.

Well... This makes me less confident in Mayhew and company getting a solid deal done with Suh. This might get ugly.

The fact Suh and Houston account for that much dead space is ridiculous!
This is my primary problem with constantly reworking deals to sign a guy to a bigger contract. CJ is a great receiver but is not a 24 million dollar a year guy and thats what his contract is for in 2016. So you bite the bullet and pay the guy for 1 more year or you overpay him for the next 4-5 years to avoid that one big year.
Same reason the Lions will not be able to move on from Stafford if he can't elevate his game.
