There is...it's just nobody pays attention to it. I believe you can't get a formal written scholarship offer to a college until the beginning of your senior year. That led to recruiters offering "verbal" scholarships to kids. There was then a rule denying that....so then recruiters started offering verbal scholarships to a kids high school coaches.

It's gotten to be total bullshit. College football has become a a contest to figure out which program can bend the rules and to find different loopholes in rules that they can manipulate to their advantage. It's simple to see too. Look at every top 5ish program over the last 5-10 years and it will be evidenced in every single one of them to some degree. Ethics and moral have gone to shit because a majority of chest beating elitist fans do not give 2 shits about a university or how they treat these 18 year old kids. They just want to go to work tomorrow and throw up in their coworkers face how much they beat their team by.

Yeah, I knew there was an age limit on written, but didnt know about the verbals. I just think it is ridiculous and outrageous. I mean high school is high school; but middle school...sickening!

That's why if you read a lot of recruiting articles a kid will say things like "my coach informed me that such and such is offering" before their senior years.

Now the new recruiting rules like letting sources outside of the immediate coaching staff recruit are going to make the unethical "business" aspect of college football take over even more. So guess who is going to get an even greater upper hand in recruiting battles now that the upper echelon higher profit schools can hire a whole external firm to do their recruiting research and actual recruiting? Sure won't be the Boise's and non-BCS schools that have a hard enough time keeping the lights on.

That's utter BULLSHIT sir

It's one thing if you have natural attrition on your team. It's quite another when you have 85 spots available, but offer 100 kids. One kid gets injured, and you kick him off to make room for the new kids you offered that you didn't have room for. We're not talking about open tryouts here. We're talking about kids already on the team, and in some cases, kids get their scholly revoked before they even get on campus. THATS BS AND YOU KNOW IT.

Your entire position is flat out horseshit

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

You know in your gut it's wrong.

But you go right on thinking Alabama should get to play by a different set of rules than everyone else.

Everyone else can just take their "ethics" and "morals" and shove it, right?

Bingo!

It's all about winning, and to win you gotta have good players. Letting average players stay on your team because of your "morals" is fucking funny.

I know it sounds bad to say "it's all about winning", but what was Saban hired for? What is any coach hired for? They're hired to win. Saban is just doing what he has to do to get top of the line players at Alabama.

He evaluates these guys, he's one of the best in the country. So he knows what he has in a player to an extent. And if a better player comes along wanting to come to Alabama, how can you not take him? The better man gets on the team, that's how it should be.

If Nebraska and Texas were on the roll Alabama is right now, you guys would have the same stance I have, and I'd probably be bitching because you guys oversign and shit.

Yea..the hell with the poor young adults just trying to get a degree to better themselves in life with an off chance at going to the NFL one day. Maybe if Saban was so good at talent and character evaluation then he wouldn't have to worry about kicking the ones out that aren't up to his standards anymore and signing a bigger pool of players than everyone in the country. Fuck that kid that is trying to come back from a torn up knee! We can get rid of his ass and get this new 4 star kid that likes us!

Pretty much sums it up.

He obviously didn't evaluate the ones he kicks off the team very well.

It really boils down to getting quantity, picking out the quality, and throwing the rest to the wolves.

This is the point......he DOESN"T KNOW if this kid he's recruiting is better than the kid already on the team, since NEITHER has hit the field of play! That's why this practice of his is despicable, and completely worthy of condemnation.

Get your head out of your ass and call it what it is.........he takes advantage of children for monetary gain. He dumps players at the drop of a hat, not for their benefit, hell not even for yours as a fan, but for HIS benefit.

I will NEVER excuse that kind of BS for Texas, never.......and neither should you. Grow a pair and call a spade a spade.

All schools over sign to some extent. It is a necessary thing to do in scholarship distribution because of things out of the hands of the institution like the draft and college kids being college kids from time to time......but some schools have made an art of it and taken it way too far. You have no business signing 30+ players in a year that you only are losing 15-18 seniors. If you were really to lose 15-12 players from the draft, legal problems, and academic problems....then you should reevaluate the kinds of players you are signing and promote walk-ons who have paid the institution and worked their asses off for 4-5 years just for the opportunity to play a little football between classes. College football is not all about winning at the expense of kids futures and taking advantage of their gullibility.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I wish Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Texas would start taking some of these recruits from Bama so you guys can quit bitching.

I imagine all 3 of those schools have won recruiting battles against Alabama in the recent past. I know for a fact VT has.

**And we will be winning another one here in the next few weeks.

Some from Virginia some not from Virginia. The only VT target Alabama got last year was Johnathon Allen and he was from Alabama.

Got Korren Kirven before that. I'm think about big name guys, so who you thinking about? Hand don't count, everybody knows he's a VT lock. Just like Holland Fisher.

Kendall Fuller (Maryland) held an Alabama offer last year and Donaldven Manning (Florida) before that. A 5-star guy and a 4-star guy that got demoted after he shut down Notre Dame. And Korren Kirven probably wouldn't have ever started at VT anyways.

Kirven is expected to get some playing time for Bama this year, he's gonna be a good player. Don't know how good yet.

Could be. I think it was a better fit for him from the begining. To be a successful DT in Foster's scheme you need to be able to shed blocks, get your pads low, hold gap integrity, and have an unending motor. And that just wasn't Kirven in high school. He's more of a spaceeater type for a 3-4.

I heard he's going to offer the kid from the AT&T comercial. The one that can shake his head and hand at the same time.
