What scares me is that Detroit has a boatload of cap space and you know that Lidstrom can't play forever. I don't think they're going to re-sign Brad Stuart either, so that just makes Suter even more attractive for Ken Holland to land.

Lebrun thinks the price for acquiring the rights to neg. with Suter will be a 1st round pick ... detroit traded theirs away for Quincey right? doesnt mean Suter wont get traded before July 1 and still wait to sign with Detroit though

right. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Stuart is gone but Lidstrom (and most likely Holmstrom for that matter, since it seems like they're a package deal) are still undecided.

Lidstrom said he will let Ken Holland know if he's coming back or not before July 1st. Even if Lidstrom does re-sign, the Wings still have cap space to sign Suter and possibly Parise (or whoever) to long term, cap friendly deals.

My take on why Suter is so good? From a defensive standpoint, he's the best damn blueliner in the league. Incredible hockey sense, incredibly smart, great positioning, rarely makes mistakes, almost impossible to beat one on one unless your name is Pavel Datsyuk. He's not supremely talented offensively, so in my book he's "worth" $5-6 million a year, but because he's a UFA, young, and has great numbers playing next to Weber he'll get more. To me he's not a true number one defenseman because he's not really a power play quarterback or an offensive assassin like Weber or Lidstrom in his day, but he can eat up minutes like crazy and still isn't bad offensively. He'd be a great compliment to a loose cannon like Kronwall. Oh God I want him in a Detroit sweater so bad, make it happen Kenny make it happen!
