Side Note-

If the Raiders keep Kelly as a GM and keeper Pierce as their HC I think they end up with Justin Fields.

Also,

With just two games left we are probably now back to be better off losing the next two then winning them.

No we're really not. The best thing that can possibly happen is the Broncos finish 9-8 regardless of how the playoff picture unfolds. The winning season is a must for shaking off the culture of losing. I believe it'll be better for this team than draft position. Just one man's opinion though. I know plenty prefer draft position.

Meh- I felt that way all the way even when we were 1-5 but honestly the best thing for this franchise is a good young QB. We need a higher pick to make that need a lot easier. Not going to win next year if we don't have a good QB.

Best bet at the start of the year was to have us win, make the playoffs and Russ look worth his contract. Now we are barring a miracle going to miss the playoffs and have no Russ next year. The best thing right now is probably to put us in position to get the best QB we can as we can't spend 40 m on another QB next year. Unless Stidham goes Kurt Warner for us. I like Stidham fine to compete with a rookie. Players won't be tanking so I am not saying we are going to try and lose and I am not saying I am going to watch a game rooting for my team to lose especially to two division rivals but honestly right now losing would benefit us more. It is only two weeks I wouldn't be saying this if we were in week 6 because I would have to hope for hope until it dies. :)

I find it nearly impossible to root for my team to lose but when it comes down to the last few games it makes me care a little less. That being said I hate losing to the Chargers or Raiders no matter what.

I think especially when you are in the QB sweepstakes of the draft you are better off losing without trying/rooting to lose if that makes sense.

I think the best part about this as a fan in this position, whatever is going to happen is going to happen. We can't control it anyway so find a reason to enjoy (whatever that may look like) and tune in. It's not like we can affect the outcome.

I'm with you - you always want to win - now in times like this there are certain things like not playing injured guys who probably would play if the game meant something for the playoffs. In these situations, you are looking for guys to prove they belong on the team next year - because they are stepping up and playing to win. I think this is what the Broncos are doing.

Outside of making the playoffs, best case scenario would be Stidham looking great but the team losing to LA but beating Vegas to help draft stock. Makes Payton look smart for moving on from Russ and makes Denver end the year on a high note by ending their losing streak against the Raider.

No you can't and I don't think anyone here is. The group on this page I think are more comprehensive than that. There are plenty of Broncos fans out there blaming him, but I do think this crowd is different. Our point is this: Wilson's contract says he is to elevate the team around him and lead them to wins. The numbers on that contract say that is what the Broncos are paying him to do. He is falling far short of that. The season is not all his fault. But he isn't delivering on his part of the bargain. Not by a long shot.
Where does Wilson’s contract say he’s required to “elevate the team around him?”

When will the Broncos fire Payton? It won’t be this year, but could it happen as soon as the end of next season?

If ownership is backing him on eating that much salary to make the change I imagine they back him way more than people expect. My guess is he gets the remaining four years of his contract to build something. Barring the team falling apart.

I’ve watched plenty on Denver games this year. I watch a lot of what happens on the sideline. It doesn’t look like the players are responding well to Payton’s leadership style. Payton seems to have changed somewhat from the way he was in NO. It doesn’t look like a change for the better.

On the field they don’t look to be playing hard on a consistent basis. Especially on offense.

You must be football illiterate if you are asking this.
Where does his contract say that? It doesn’t. He’s responsible for his play and his play only. There’s no clause in his contract which makes him responsible for the performance of others.

Now, you may say great players elevate those around them, but that’s not true either.

The only way he can elevate the play of a receiver is to get him the ball. He can’t elevate the play of his O line or his running backs. He can’t elevate the play of the defensive line, linebackers or DB’s.

Players at every position are responsible for own performance. If a receiver can’t ever get open, that’s his fault. If he drops passes that’s his fault. If an O lineman can’t block a defender, that’s his fault.

So the QB, as the leader of the offense and by default in today's NFL, the entire team, doesn't have a responsibility to lead the team and rally and inspire them? He doesn't carry the weight of the highest paid contract on the team? All contracts carry equal weight regardless of paycheck?

Interesting.

He is the leader, but nowhere in his contract does is say that he needs to elevate the play of others as you claimed.

If it’s anyone’s job to elevate the play of others, it’s the cos he’s. It’s their job to put players in a position to get the most out of their talent.

You made a dumb claim.

That was a dumb claim.

Look I don't know if you're as football illiterate as you appear or if you're just being obtuse. If you don't know the first thing about the weight of responsibility teams place on their QBs, and if the size of their contracts don't make that clear to you, you're at a level of sports illiteracy even I can't help you with. If you're just being obtuse, carry on. But do so without me. I don't argue with idiots.
