MLBTR is saying : The Phillies are conducting “intensive homework” on the Dodgers‘ minor league system in anticipation of trying to work out a deal involving Cole Hamels, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports on Twitter. The trade market for Hamels still seems to be in a holding pattern, along with much of the rest of the non-Jon Lester pitching market.
Shit. IIRC last spring training the Dodgers had SEVEN good-to-great starting pitchers on their roster, and they are still trying to get more?
Well, right now they have 3. Unfortunately, all three are AT LEAST lower-end Aces (2 Uber-Aces and one lower-end Ace to near-Ace). Adding Hamels will make their rotation competitive, if not better than, the 2010 Giants and Phils rotations.
Unless I'm mistaken (and I could be) they have 4 : Kershaw, Greinke, Haren, Hyun-jin Ryu.
And I now believe I was thinking of just before the 2013 season, not 2014, for the "7 starting pitchers".
