11 holes? What's up with that?

We have three sections of our league and thus three rotations. We tee off #s1, #7 and #12. Two of the routes end up being 11 holes and one of them is 12.

I think I've finally cured my slice after all these decades. Get a straight ball (or sometimes a push) or even a nice draw with my drives, makes me very happy. Of course, there's a few times every round where I spaz out with my old swing and hit a massive pull.

It's weird having to club down on some approaches and I'm running through greens at times, that's not always a good thing.

The scoring is all fucked up and changes. We began stroking off the lowest handicap with two man best ball. Now they've changed it to everyone getting strokes at half of their standard 18 hole handicap.

So, we play for one point per hole and they get tallied all year. Like I said, stupid. After week one there's really not much of a win each week but a running total.

I enjoy meeting up with other folks and having a beer afterward so I just don't care really.

....what's worse is at mid season they went to net skins. Fuck that. Every hole gets parred each week by someone getting a stoke. My only chance at a skin now is a net eagle on one of the four holes I get a stroke on. I had 11 chances to hold up a birdie skin before, now I only have 4.

I hit two earlier in the year so I'm up $75.00 on the year~

Yep, that's the best part of league. Plus, it keeps me playing at least somewhat regularly in the summer. Every year I promise myself I will play more, but every year I look back and wonder why I didn't.

Yup, best thing about the league. Though I maintain a private club membership so I play as much as my bum leg will allow.

We play a deuce pot, so any two (obviously) gets you in the money. I got lucky on a cold weather night and hogged it, bagging $80.

Can't get off to a good start, double bogie, triple bogie, and finally pulled my head out of my ass and finished with a 43.

Only played a couple rounds this year. It’s hot af down here. Been doing a lot of practice and getting ready for some tournaments in a couple of months. I tend to play more in the fall than spring and summer.

My point of focus this year:

1. Shortening my back swing a little and keeping my left arm straight. Focusing more on staying over the ball and getting good hip/shoulder turn.

2. Shifting my weight to my left foot without moving too far during the down swing. Actually staying as centered as I can.

3. Slow the fuck down! Let the loft of the club do the work. This is bad habit that I struggle with the most. Never fails during the first 3-4 holes I’m trying to kill the ball leaving monster numbers in the score card. Once I settle down (2 beers) and swing easy I hitting more fairways and greens.

I don't usually put folks through a hole by hole but I do want to describe my 1st and 18th on Wednesday morning.

#1) I stabed my fuckin' driver into the ground behind the ball.....I Iiterally don't recall the last time I did something like that. The ball barely cleared the swampy hazard 40yds from the tee. Still, I could swipe at it so I just need to lay it out to the middle with an 8 iron and take the bogey. Thinned the fuck outta the 8 and scuttled it under the fruit trees across the fairway. I'm 120yds away under the tree limbs punching a 5 iron. I did ok but it's past the severely sloping hole at the back right. I'll gladly take two from here. I tossed the putt 70 degrees away up the hill and the fucking thing curled into the hole to save a par. Wow.

....cut to 17. I'm plus 8 and my obsession with breaking 80 is in my grasp. All I need is bogey, par. Yup, missed a bogey putt to go to +10 and fuck my chances.

#18) They had the tees back but I killed it dead center and long. Our 18th has a big ridge from front to back. It leaves crazy putts sometimes. I smoothed a 9 to the green but alas, they had the pin cut into the ridge so from the right side it left an impossible 25ft putt.....that I made! Tossed it up the crest of the ridge 80 degrees away from the hole and the damned thing ran up the hill, took a quick left and trickled into the hole for my 79.

I would have posted abbout it earlier but I've been drunk for 2 days.

A few errant shots cost me on the front 9, shot a 44. Turned the corner and parred 10-13, never did that before.

I'm thinking that I have a good shot at going low (under 40)...I was wrong. Evidently the golf gods work with Mother Nature and as we headed to 14 the sky turned black, and the downpour commenced.

played 9-holes down in VA over the weekend. My driver felt great but too many shots were just not flush and my putting was pretty terrible.

the good news is that I played with a guy who is a member at Robert Trent Jones and I will be getting a round in there soon!

Played nine yesterday, was 4 over after three. throw in a couple more bogies, but three birdies saved my game, and I ended up with a 38.

Wednesday was hot and humid, went to the gym and then walked the back nine. played ok through the first five holes and then all of a sudden couldn't hit the ball. Everything felt out of whack. Quit counting.

Yesterday, same weather, but no gym and took a cart. Shot an 82. Amazing how much better you golf when you're relaxed.

Had a late tee time (5:24) was tired from the day's activities, almost canceled. Was three over after the first two holes and ended 2 over for a 37, tied my best nine-hole score.

I DID IT!!!

Started out slow, six over after 4, but finished the front with a 42.

On the back I was even through 17 and then bogied the last hole for a 37.

Never shot 1 over on nine holes and it was the first time i broke 80.

I broke 80 three times this year and I got new irons but my season has stalled. Had my right hip replaced 4 years ago and now my left has progressed to where I can't walk. I got my doc to prescribe me pain meds so I can make it to my 10/23 surgery.

I was able to finish 18 on Friday riding and taking a single 5mg Hydrocet so at least I can still play some but it's tough and painful. I was +14 after 13 holes but somehow managed to par out the rest of the way to hold down the 84.

We'll see how the rest of the year goes.
