Rogers entered territory it had little experience in when it bought the NHL rights. That was 7 years ago. They've adjusted, gotten rid of high salaries, made production changes & got advice from other companies who do similar work. They may have hurt for a year or two but I doubt the TV deal is causing them problems today.
