Green Day has no business being in there already, and arguably at all.
Of those 90s ‘sellout’ punk bands, the offspring is way better. Green Day kind of reinvented themselves with the American Idiot garbage and stayed relevant to the newer generation, that’s why they hung around and people pretend that they deserve some kind of recognition.

Greenday has nothing to do with bringing in grunge. They were a part of the underground punk scene until Dookie in 1994. Bands like them and the Offspring broke out of the punk underground on the tails of the grunge wave.

I liked both and can tell you Green Day was undoubtedly the bigger artist.

I do agree they piggy backed Nirvana etc but I said all that to say as a late thirty something even though Green Day wasnt anywhere near my top ten bands at the time I get how we got here

Muscially yes I prefer Offspring.

Be honest with yourself though who's more "revered"?

I wasn’t meaning to compare them, until I did in the next post anyway. Just noting that they came from the same scene at the same time. The point was they didn’t have anything to do with grunge.

Ok it's fair to criticize calling them Grunge

I don’t know about revered, Green Day figured out how to stay relevant with people who will pay to see them in sports arenas.

I actually got nothing against them. I think everything they did after Warning blows (that I’ve heard anyway), but it worked for them. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I can’t figure out why, but they aren’t the only one.

Green Day capitalized on their moment.

Woodstock Mud fight + MTV + acoustic ballad that was played to death on every corner of the planet = HOF, I guess?

I'd be fine if they EVENTUALLY got in, but it just seems way too soon, especially when there's plenty of equally deserving bands that came well before them.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that goddamn song.

I take back what I said about having nothing against them.

If Three Dog Night gets in, really, shouldn't the Monkees as well?

My wife was watching the season finale of Friends the other night and that shit was on there at the end.

They prolly bought their way in, off the proceeds from that, alone.

Glen Campbell did a cover of it right before his Alzheimer's diagnosis. He was no Johnny Cash, so it probably wouldn't have been near as impactful as Cash's version of Hurt while pretty much being on death's door, but had Campbell waited a few years, it might have gave him that one last thing to be remembered by.

Glen Campbell wasn't only a great singer but also an excellent guitar player. I like both Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell.

They're basically the same thing, except the Monkees had a bigger following.
The Monkees had a popular television show before they did concerts so of course they had a bigger following. Gee you're dumb.
