Their biggest hit was a cover...

Seeing a trend here. I’m gonna start a top 40s casino cover band so you can petition for me to be in the R&R HOF too.
You would be more of a candidate for the hall-of-shame with your lame opinions. I'm an actual musician so my opinions carry more clout than your weak sauce. You are just as pathetic on the political threads.

In your super serious musician’s opinion, what quality is more important when you’re looking at who deserves hall of fame recognition, that you didn’t write your biggest hits, or that you have more talented studio musicians record them for you?

I know having both makes a group a no brainer and all, but for those on the fringe... your opinion is really important here...

But to add another list to notable HOF snubs, I probably can't come up with a bigger snub than JJ Cale.

Induct him in the same category that Leon Russell was inducted in.

And for the discussion in the thread, induct Gram Parsons in the same category. Really, I just want Parsons in the HOF be it with the Byrds, The FLying Burrito Brothers or as an award for musical excellence.

PLaying the triangle in the high school band doesn't make you a musician.

I'll put my fiddle and mandolin playing against anyone who doesn't do it for a living, but I wouldn't call myself a musician.

I see it from both sides

If you're digesting it strictly as "rock and roll" then LL Cool J Over many is absurd.

If you're looking at it from a cultural standpoint Three Dog Night has jack dick on LL Cool J

Generally, I think the rock and roll HOF should be rock and roll and its subgenres with some exceptions for early influences(Hank Williams Sr, Muddy Maters, Leadbelly, etc)

I don't know if rap does, but Country and R&B have their own HOFs.

I think they acknowledge they basically jacked it from AA culture or at minimum it was a huge influence.

But to deflect it back to cultural impact band to band those that critique the Green Day selection are basically ignoring they were front and center ushering in the grunge era

I agree with you on JJ Cale but the Byrds had their greatest chart success before Gram Parsons joined the group.

The blues were a huge influence in the early days. So was country music. That's why there's a lot of old country and blues musicians in the HOF.

Greenday has nothing to do with bringing in grunge. They were a part of the underground punk scene until Dookie in 1994. Bands like them and the Offspring broke out of the punk underground on the tails of the grunge wave.

Wait, wut?

They are a punk pop band. Similar mentalities, but different sound, different genre.

Green Day has no business being in there already, and arguably at all.
