I am a yankee fan and i will be the first one to admit that Robinson Cano is over-rated... Or to be more exact he is an under achiever... He has the skills to be better than he is. He is a career .309 hitter, which is great, but he has a career .272 BA with RISP. For a .309 hitter that sucks. Thats a .037 differential, that is way to high... And with that said he then should at least get 15 more RBIs per season... but he doesnt...

Not to mention for such an elite hitter, he does not walk enough... I do beleive we over-rate him due to his position and potential... But at 30 years old we know what he is...

If we are going to compare cano to other second baseman he is still the best, and not very close... Its just that we dont compare him to other second baseman...

The whole team was pretty pathetic batting wise in last year's playoffs, but I feel like he flew under the radar, with A-Rod and Granderson getting the full brunt of the media and fans anger. Take a look at Cano's numbers for the 2 series last year, they are scary bad.

A good defensive 2B that plays at least 159 games a season that has Slugged over .520 the last 4 seasons? Guess I'm missing something

Robinson Cano has been a top 10 hitter in the league the last 3 years. His 3 avg numbers tell me that not me overrating him. Now add that not only he is a top 10 hitter in the league, but plays a good 2B? maybe you underrate him?

If you put Dustin Pedroia's heart in Robinson Cano's body, you'd have the greatest 2B to ever play the game.

Robinson is (at times) not very interested.

Well hell, you guys are talking about being the best player to ever step on the field. Fact is, he has been a top 10 every day player the last handful of years. Not seeing how that is overrating him at all.

Does not mean he isn't overrated.

My roommate is a Yankees fan and touts him as the next Jeter. If the Yankees sign him to a $200+ million contract, I would say it is very fair to call him overrated.

No, I would say that the Yankees are fuckin' retarded, in that case.

Sounds like you might overrate Jeter. But signing him to whatever amount of money doesn't change the fact he has been arguably the best 2B in the game for a few years now.

Swangin, if you compare him only to second baseman then yea, he is the best... but being the best does not mean you cant be over-rated... And not to mention Cano is not compared to other second baseman, he is compared to the other elite players in baseball....

I don't know how else to rank a player. I look at Hitting and the position he plays. He is a top 10 hitter in the league playing a prime position. So I view him as a top 10 player in MLB. Anyone in the top 10 is hard for me to say is overrated no matter where some people want to rank him in that top 10.

The guy talks about Jeter like he is the goat.

I think the best player at his position can still be 'overrated.' Yes, Cano has probably been the best 2B the last couple years, but I would hardly say by a wide margin, especially if you consider the 3-4 guys who are on his level or better defensively

and as i mentioned in the original post, maybe the word over-rated is not correct and under achieved is more accurate... But how can someone who under achieves not be over-rated???

He also is in the top 2-3 in games played every year. That's even more value added. Hell, at the end of this I might realize I underrate Cano

The Mets would be more than happy to take an overrated Cano off the Yankees' hands...
