Are you denying the links between the Giants/Dodgers and the Mets? That isn’t really theory. That is pretty much accepted truth…
:rolleyes2:

C'mon, man....don't be silly.
Trust me, I know their history and ties to LA & SF.
I only took exception & disagreed w/ your description of them is all...nothing more.
Not sure why you feel like going on and on about it after the solemn news we got earlier.

You are a special one. I was honoring their decision to honor Mays, and you acted the JA by eye-rolling.

Interesting take how ONE post equates to “going on and on”.

Arguably the best all around player in MLB history, even if that '54 World Series catch has been a bit overblown. It was a hell of a catch to be sure, but the best ever?

RIP. Probably named as more people's Favorite all-time player than anybody else. Also let's take a moment to look at how great this group of players from the 50's that were part of the transition from the Ne-gro Leagues to MLB was. Imagine if the "Jackie Robinson moment" happened a little later, like 1975 or something. The talent available for these other leagues in the 1960's would be amazing.

You got Hank Aaron, a guy who literally started in the Knegro leagues and moved to the "Big Show" then proceeded to break Babe Ruth's unbreakable record. Willie Mays, another guy who started in the Knegro Leagues and went on to be one of the best ever in MLB. Ernie Banks, Bob Gibson, Billy Williams, Willie McCovey, Lou Brock (the guy who broke Ty Cobb's unbreakable stolen base record). Dick Allen and Fergie Jenkins came a little later but they were great in the 60's also. Probably a bunch more I'm forgetting.

I loved me some Bob Gibson. He was a tough, mean pitcher who could hit.

Reading his baseball reference page is one of those things that still blows my mind.
Dude was somehow criminally under-rated in the context of modern day analytic WAR. (23 seasons of career average of 8.2!!)
He might have won even more MVPs had that stuff been more considered.

He was Ted Williams/Babe Ruth at the plate no doubt,
But he mixed it with otherworldly slick fielding and speed that made him maybe the greatest defensive player (leader putouts alltime CF).

RIP
And the fact that he played most of his games in the 60's. When the mound was 10 feet high and the strike zone was the size of Rhode Island. Against Koufax, Drysdale, Bunning, Gibson, Carlton, Seaver, Spahn...

Had to be earlier than '48 because Satchel Paige was on the Indians that year becoming one of the first 2 black players to win a World Series (with Larry Doby his teammate)

Rickey Henderson, who didn't live by the motto "Better living through Chemistry"
How do you know that?

Interesting pick...putting aside roids is Henderson's career actually > Bonds'? Maybe so

Or maybe Pujols?

Mays played in the wind tunnel known as Candlestick while Ruth played in Yankee Stadium, more aptly named "The House Built for Ruth"
