They are crazy offering a first year coordinator a HC job. I love him as an OC but is he really ready to be a HC. Maybe in another year or 2. It is always a crapshoot. DCs tend to make better HCs then OCs IMO.

Copycat league. Young OC that show some innovation are what is in for HC picks right now.

Any headline at this point is a smoke screen...

Robert Saleh got an HC job for the work he did in San Fran. Now Demeco Ryans is the hot name because of the same defense. Did San Fran identify two straight savants? Or is the defensive personnel there really, really good?

Ben Johnson seemed to have the magic touch this year. But the Lions OL gave Ben Johnson great pass protection to work with. The Lions executed well in short yardage. Goff spread the ball all over the field. Goff took care of the ball. The defense gave Ben Johnson turnovers. The head coach gave Ben Johnson freedom to be aggressive and empty the playbook.

If the Lions talent is legit then it won't matter who calls the plays. Dan Campbell was a capable play caller in 2021 and no one thinks he's some great offensive mind.

I hope Ben stays with Goff to take the offense to the next level. But if Ben leaves we need to sell the job as a great opportunity for the next guy.

Because the guy that was not white was in charge of maybe the worst defense in football. Not his fault at all, and the improvement through the season was awesome.
