I can definitely see that happening. Wonder who'd they'd drop? From what I've seen so far, should be Reyes if he doesn't show up. Got to wonder if being Barry's guy has helped him a bit too much. OTOH, age of Cullen is a concern too. But on limited snaps might be ok.

He's got the potential to be an incredible RZ threat for us and quickly. Seems the perfect area to ease him into packages.

This package didn't fair so well with Tom Compton in (more like it telegraphed our intent) but the addition of Vernon changes the possibilities.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden likes the look because it can, as he says, regulate a defense. If they bring in another linebacker and remove a corner, the Redskins could audible to spread out the tight ends and create a mismatch in the pass game.

“So you get great mismatches in the pass game,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “It’s a very valuable [look] because our tight ends can handle the running game, but they’re very explosive in the passing game. They can get down the field.”

And a defense still must contend with whatever receiver is also on the field, be it DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jamison Crowder or, eventually, Josh Doctson. Play-action passes weren’t big options off this look last year – they ran only eight. But the six completions gained 105 yards. In theory, this group should be more dangerous off that look. Which means, in theory, it could be used more often than last season. Sometimes it could be masked as a two-back look with Paul’s ability to play fullback as well.

Gruden said the true three tight-end look makes it hard for defenses to prepare. As he said, teams focus heavily on traditional sets: one tight end, two backs; two receivers, two tight ends, one back; three receivers, one tight end and one back.

“Then you throw in a three tight end set and everyone’s play sheet as a coordinator shrinks,” Gruden said. “That’s a lot to work on. So that’s very much a positive.”

Daily Dox report...some good comments from Toler on how Dox is progressing and what he shows on the field.

"He's long. He's fast," Toler said of Doctson, who set a TCU record with 79 receptions and had 14 touchdowns during his junior season.

"Normally I can get a read on receivers pretty quickly," Toler continued. "He definitely doesn't play like a rookie."

Beyond the physical gifts, Doctson's instincts and route-running impress his unofficial defensive back mentor

"He doesn't show a lot of gauges in his routes. He stems well," Toler said, referring to a term about how a receiver can affect a defensive back's initial alignment.

"He attacks your leverage. If I have inside leverage, stemming means you attack inside to make you go deeper inside to the go with an out-breaking route," Toler explained. "He's good at that."

Don't understand why you think that can't be taught. That and many other techniques can and are taught to WRs. How many can execute them is another story. That is sort of like saying you can't teach side drafting in racing.
