Head Coach Jay Gruden

** The following is a transcript of a conference call with local reporters this afternoon.**

On the red zone:

“We’ve just got to keep working. You know, we had… The first opportunity, we went down there and scored. The second one we got stopped. We went for it on fourth-and-a-foot and didn’t get it. And then we got stopped, and then the last one, we conceded it. We took a knee and centered the ball and kicked the field goal. Last week we stopped at the 18-yard line, took a knee to run the game out. So a lot of those are misleading. We’re getting down there quite a bit, but we do have to convert more obviously touchdowns, and that’s something we’ll continue to work.”

On if he believes NFL games should be allowed to end in ties:

“Well, these games are long. We had a lot of guys banged up, and you make these games even longer, it’s going to be more difficult. If they want to try to do anything, you might want to figure out a way to shorten the overtime and make it more like college where you get the ball at the 25 and each team gets a shot and see what happens at the end of each possession. I couldn’t imagine going into another period of overtime there with the guys that we had banged up. Morgan Moses got banged up, DeSean [Jackson] was banged up, [Will] Blackmon, he was banged up and so on and so forth. It’d be nice to end the game with a victor, but until they figure something out, it is what it is.”

On if the team can improve in the red zone at this point of the year or if it can just overcome it by scoring from farther out:

“I think there’s a little bit of both. You know, we have to get better in the red zone, without a doubt. The windows get tighter. I think the running game will help. I think we had the play on third down and four or five, and they hadn’t shown any two-deep, drop-eight at all and they dropped eight and played two-deep and they took our play away and ended up kicking a field goal. We got stopped on fourth and a foot was the other one. We took a knee on the other one. So we just have to continue to work and get better. We’re not going to concede to anything. We understand the importance of the red zone and converting drives into touchdowns. Whether it’s run or pass, we’ve got to take a long look at it and find our best ways to get the ball to our best weapons down there and convert.”

On WR DeSean Jackson’s opportunities:

“We just have to continue to… We can’t force the issue, number one. I think Kirk [Cousins] has enough on his plate to worry about who is getting their stat numbers. DeSean is a great player. There is no doubt about it. We have to try to figure out ways to get him more involved in the offense. Yesterday was a tough deal because he was banged up and got injured. But he made a huge play in the game that when we were down 10 points, we needed a jolt and he gave us a jolt on a 40-yard gain – I think it was – on a deep corner route… But unfortunately after that he got hurt and didn’t really return. In order for him to get the ball, he’s got to be in there. He’s just got to continue to keep working and he’ll get his balls.”

On Spencer Long’s performance at center:

“Yeah, he’s done a really good job, he really has. He just continues to get better and better at the position. The more he plays, the better he’s going to get. It’s not an easy position. It’s not easy to come up with all these calls and then when those fronts are moving like Cincinnati had a multiple front, they were shifting into jam-fronts and double-A’s and all that stuff, to have to make calls at a split-second rate – changing protections in a split-second – it’s not easy. He’s just getting better and better at it. He’s a big, physical guy. He can move people in the running game [and] he’s showing he can handle the mental side of it, too. That was my biggest concern initially, but he’s handled that extremely well and he’s doing a good job.”

On the penalties in yesterday’s game:

“Well, it’s something that we have to address with our team. We had a lot of penalties. I think we gave them eight first downs via penalty. After watching the film, I don’t know. Some of them were not very blatant, that’s for sure. Some of the glancing hits to the facemask on A.J. Green, I just don’t understand them. There was no intent there to injure, it was absolutely just a glancing blow that had nothing to do with anything. They called them. They thought it was a penalty. We just have to be sure as defensive backs that we get our hands down. [Quinton] Dunbar had two or three, I think, holding calls – one of them in the end zone. I don’t know what to teach them. He was jamming his guy and then Andy threw it over the guy’s head and threw it out of bounds, but they called holding again. There’s some of those that we can clean up our hands a little bit defensively, and then offensively, the offensive PI [pass interference], there’s nothing I would change there. That’s not offensive PI in any realm whatsoever of the penalty that I know of offensive pass interference. There’s nothing Pierre [Garçon] did wrong, unfortunately the referee saw it different. Some of the penalties we can clean up, some of them we can’t do anything about. We just have to abide by the rules that they see them as and go from there and try to overcome them.”

On recovering from the trip to London and the plan for this week:

“Yeah, I think we’re starting to get back. We had a long flight last night. We’re back to normal here. The players have a day off today and they’ll come back tomorrow and we’ll have a meeting and review this film, try to give them a plan of what to do in their free time as far as working out is concerned. Hopefully they come back with a free mind and be ready to roll for the second half of the season. We have a tough stretch. I think we have three games in 11 days, or something like that. We have got Minnesota right around the corner. No. 1 defense in the league, they’re playing extremely well. We have got to get ready. Big thing is to get some time off, get their mind off football for a little while, and then come back raring to go because it’s going to be a grind. The second half of the season is going to be a tough one.”

On RB Matt Jones:

“We’ll have to wait and see how he does when we return from the bye. He’s going to get treatment these next four or five days and then when we come back to practice, he’ll practice, hopefully with the team. Then we’ll make that determination of how good he’s doing. But Robert Kelley I thought ran hard. He ran physical and made some nice runs. I think he pre-determined a couple cuts here and there, maybe didn’t let the play develop a little bit like we would like, but I think for the most part I was happy the way he ran. He ran physical and he ran hard. I think he had 21 carries for 85 yards, or something like that, 87 yards. That’s a pretty darn good first day for the guy as far as being a lead-down back. I like what I saw in Robert, but it’s not out of the possibility that Matt Jones could come back in here and get some of those reps back.”

On if he’s considered mixing and matching running backs throughout the season:

“Yeah, I’ve thought about it. I think these guys have all proven that they can carry the ball. To say that one is so much better than the others – if we had a clear-cut, No. 1 guy, it would be different. But we have a couple guys that are worthy of getting the ball. I think if Mack Brown continues to keep working in practice, I might try to get him some carries. I think we have four really good backs. It’s just a matter of you only have one ball. We have five, six, seven really good receivers and tight ends and we just have to distribute the ball properly and try to keep everybody off-balance with our running game and passing game.”

On the third down defense:

“Yeah, no question that’s something we’ll look at. The red zone offense, the third down defense, red zone defense – that’s something that we always look at. We’re really trying to focus in on situational football – whether it’s goal line, red zone, short yardage, four-minute – all those that come up in a game and are crucial in the outcome. Those are big time. So we’re definitely going to look at third down defense and red zone offense, and third down offense, for that matter.”

On the defense:

“I’ll tell you, they’re playing hard. You know, just watching the game you can see that they’re playing extremely hard. There’s some things we can clean up, you know. I think Will Blackmon getting hurt a little bit and Duke [Ihenacho] getting hurt a little bit put us in a little bind at safety, but they continue to compete. Will Compton played his butt off. The defensive line is running to the ball, outside linebackers were running. So I’m happy with the effort we’re getting. We’ve just got to try to figure out ways to make some more plays. We got the one interception and the one fumble, which were big time, but we’ve got to try to continue to figure out ways to get the ball back to the offense.”

On if there’s anything he regrets from last week:

“You know, I don’t know. I thought the decisions you always go back and look at probably or, you know, at the end in overtime. We had second down and four. You know, the issue that we had, Morgan Moses was out. We were out of some of our big packages as far as using [Ty] Nsekhe as an extra tight end and Niles Paul was out also. So we only had two healthy tight ends – Vernon [Davis] and Jordan [Reed] – and Nskehe had to play right tackle so we were kind of short as far as big bodies were concerned. So that’s kind of why I decided to center the ball and give [Dustin] Hopkins the extra point-type kick, and thought we’d get out of there with a win. I still think that was the right call. But other than that, I think we used our timeouts properly in both the first half and second half, and overtime, and there weren’t any really challenges that I could’ve done or done differently. I just think we just came away with a tie. But we’re going to look at everything we did from play callers, offense, and defense and special teams and see what we can do different. But nothing really glaring that I have regrets about. I regret tying, but nothing as far as decisions.”

On TE Niles Paul:

“Well, he’s going to get an MRI. We’re waiting on the MRI results right now. So we’ll wait and see how that is. He’s got a shoulder strain and we’re going to figure out the extent of it here shortly.”

On other injury updates:

“Will Blackmon’s going to have surgery on his thumb. Hopefully we’ll get him back in action. They can cast it up and hopefully he’ll play. DeSean [Jackson] just came out of the game. He was just a little sore. He already had the shoulder, he had the tight hamstring, and then he got hit again on the head. It wasn’t a concussion but he was just banged up – his whole body was banged up so he didn’t go back in. But I think he’ll be OK. And I think that’s about it.”

On T Morgan Moses:

“He has an ankle sprain and he’ll be day-to-day when he gets back.”

On if he is concerned about CB Josh Norman being targeted by officials moving forward:

“Well, he can’t be any more targeted than he was yesterday, that’s for sure. Josh is his own man and he really speaks his mind and he just felt strongly about the way he felt and he put it out there. So he was frustrated after the game. It’s one thing to have one or two calls but he had quite a few on him that were, you know, that could have gone either way quite frankly. But it’s going to be hard to put a filter on Josh. He’s very passionate about the game. He’s a great player, I love his energy, I love what he brings to this football team. He’s one of the greatest competitors on this team that I’ve seen in a long time and I will not take that away from him. So, he’s just going to continue to go out there and compete. As far as him being targeted, he probably is a little bit but he’s going to have to deal with it and work on his hand placement and just continue to work and get better and better, but he’s a great player and I love his passion.”

On if he spoke about targeting in reference to officials rather than opponents:

“[Laughter] Yeah, I think everybody knows where he is. He’s such a high profile player and he plays so hard and he’s always up there in bump-and-run, playing physical with the receivers, so I think they keep a close eye on him and his matchup. But, you know, I think some of the great corners had to go through that a little bit. I think [Darrelle] Revis probably has in his career and it just goes with the territory. When you’re a great player, people keep a closer eye on you.”

On his surprises and disappointments at the halfway point of the season:

“Oh, boy. You know, I think being 4-3-1, I think we have all of our goals still in sight which is good, but we’re obviously disappointed not being at the top of our division right now. That’s probably the most negative thing is where we are in the division. You know, being at 4-3-1, if you told me before the season we are 4-3-1 after eight games and [would] be in last place, I’d say you’re crazy. But, you know, that’s a little disappointing. Positives, I like the effort we’re playing with. I think we’re getting better and better. Our offense is playing pretty well right now. Obviously the red zone things are something we have to correct. We have to finish drives and figure out ways…We have too many weapons and too many good players not to convert drives into touchdowns and that’s something that we’ll address. But other than that, I am not disappointed at all in any player or any way that we are playing, but we just have to tie up some things, tie up some loose ends here, correct some coachable things and get ready for the second half.”

Head Coach Jay Gruden

On the injury report:

“The only injury of note that I’m going to talk about today is Niles Paul is going on IR with his shoulder. And then we started Derek Carrier back to practice. Other than that we’ll do the injuries on Wednesday.”

On the team’s reaction to T Trent Williams’ suspension:

“Well, we react and play with the guys we have ready to play. Ty Nsekhe will step in and do a great job. We have no problem with that. Had a talk with Trent, discussed the situation, what happened, how it happened, and we’ll keep that between us. But we stand behind Trent and we know that he’s going to be a big help for us when he becomes eligible.”

On if Williams’s status as a team captain makes the suspension disappointing:

“Yeah, I mean, you hate to lose a player of that magnitude any way, shape or form. It’s going to have a little… it’s going to have an effect on our football team. But, like I said, I have faith in Ty and I have faith that in four weeks Trent will be back ready to go.”

On if TE Niles Paul will need surgery:

“Yeah, it’s a labrum issue. So it is surgery, yes.”

On who can fill Paul’s role:

“Yeah, we’re going to look around today, tomorrow and see if we bring another guy in. Hopefully Derek [Carrier] starts his clock, [we will] see if he’s ready to go. You know, he played a lot for us when he was up. First action back for a long time with him, but hopefully we get him ready to go.”

On if they will consider adding another tackle:

“Yeah, we’re thinking about all that. It’s something we’ve been talking about upstairs and hopefully this afternoon we’ll get somebody else in here.”

On T Morgan Moses:

“He’s doing good. He’s still sore, but I think in time hopefully the swelling will go down and he’ll be ready to go. He’s a tough guy and played through worse injuries, but you never know. We’ve just got to do the best we can and get him as much rehab as we can and see how he’s feeling come Wednesday.”

On if Williams’ suspension impacts his status as a leader:

“No. No, no, and people can take it a lot of different ways but Trent’s done a lot for this football team, for this franchise, and he’s done a lot for the young guys in this building. The development of a lot of our young, key players – Morgan Moses, Brandon Scherff, Spencer Long – he’s been an integral part of that development so it doesn’t have any effect what so ever on his captain [status] in my mind.”

On Williams’ suspension:

“Well, I had a talk about with Trent and he told me the circumstances and it was last year and I believe what happened and I think there was a mix up. I think what we have to do is really take into account for what has actually happened right now. He is suspended for four games. That we know. How it happened, why it happened, that’s something between him and the NFLPA but we have to adjust how we coach and who’s going to play for the next four weeks and when he does come back he’ll be ready to go.”

On the play of RB Robert Kelley and the state of the running back position:

“I think he played good, I really do. I’ve said it all along, we’ve got three, four good backs – four good backs now that Mack [Brown] is up – so I’m not going to project who’s going to get the bulk of the load but right now I think it’s going through Robert Kelley as I stand up here right now. And that could change come Thursday or Friday, but Matt [Jones] will get his touches and earn his way back into the role that we think he should be in.”

On the plan for Williams during the suspension:

“He’s going to be allowed to come to meetings in the morning, work out here at the facility and that’s it. He can’t come to practice, can’t go to games.”

On if S Will Blackmon will be available to play on Sunday:

“We’ll see. We’ll address all of those injuries on Wednesday.”

On his experience in England:

“How was it in England? It was neutral [laughter].”

On if he has voted:

“I have not voted yet, no.”

On for whom he will vote:

“I’ll keep that between myself. I don’t wanna… I’ll make that decision when I get it to the booth, kind of like I did in my tests when I was younger, I’ll cheat on the guy next to me [laughter].”

On if he is surprised by how much longer TE Vernon Davis could extend his career:

“I think the shape that Vernon’s in and the way he takes care of himself, I think he can play for a few more years, without a doubt. I mean, I have been actually surprised at the impact he’s had on this football team both on and off the field. He’s a great guy, he works hard, he’s good in the running game, he pays attention in meetings. He’s obviously got the speed and skillset that you need at the tight end position. So I think he’s been just awesome as far as his contributions and we expect that for hopefully years to come.”

On his assessment of the first half of the season:

“Yeah, we’re excited about the second half. We have a lot of work to do without a doubt. There are areas that we need to improve – red zone offense, red zone defense, third-down defense, protecting the football, getting more turnovers – but I feel like we have the people in-house that we can get the job done, I really do. I feel like we’re ascending, and we’re in a good spot. We’re getting stronger. Our team is playing hard. I love the effort that they play with. And that’s something that really as a coach, you can’t go out here and coach effort. And we’re playing with great effort, which is exciting. We’ve just got to shore up a few situational-type things and keep moving forward. But now it’s all about Minnesota, and studying Minnesota, and putting the game plan together and getting ready to beat a good Viking team.”

One other note from Jay Gruden's press conference today: He said both center Kory Lichtensteiger and receiver Josh Doctson both are possibilities to return off the injured reserve list. The Redskins can only activate one. A player can't return for eight weeks after being placed on IR. Lichtensteiger has a calf injury and was placed on IR after a Week 3 win over the New York Giants. Doctson was placed on IR in Week 6 because of an Achilles injury. He's now walking without a boot.

Head Coach Jay Gruden

On injuries:

“Don’t really have any injury updates. Morgan [Moses], he’ll be day-to-day; and then DeSean [Jackson], we’ll just do the same thing as last week. Kind of figure out where he’s at and on Wednesday we come back – or Tuesday.”

On T Morgan Moses’ effort despite playing through pain:

“Yeah, it doesn’t surprise me. He’s been that way since he came here. He’s just been a good all-around football player. Eager to play, eager to learn, and he’s just getting better and better. And he’s played with some injuries before, and an ankle sprain won’t stop Morgan. He’s a big man that plays extremely hard and played well yesterday despite his ankle injury.”

On if T Ty Nsekhe gave Gruden ‘what [he] was looking for’:

“He did, he did. He played extremely well, man. That’s a great defensive line over there. Everson Griffen is an excellent player. He had to pick up some blitzes and was very sound in his protection and the run game. And couldn’t really ask for anything more.”

On if there is a fear that WR DeSean Jackson’s injury could linger:

“I wouldn’t say a fear. I mean, it’s a reality, I guess. I was happy the way the guys stepped up in his place, but we obviously would love to have DeSean back with his game-breaking speed. But we have got to get him healthy first and he has to feel good about his shoulder and he has to have the strength back. An injured DeSean won’t do us much good. We’ve got to make sure he’s 100 percent and ready to roll.”

On if Jackson could play on Thanksgiving:

“I think this week’s in play for him, really. I do. I think he got a shot last week and hopefully he’s going to get more range of motion, more treatment today and tomorrow. And we’ll see how he’s doing Wednesday.”

On how to resolve red zone struggles:

“We just keep working. I think there are sometimes where going down there and kicking field goals isn’t a bad thing in close games like it was yesterday. I would rather do that than force an interception down there. The lanes are tight – the passing lanes are very small down there – if we don’t get somebody open right off the bat, it gets hard. They close quickly. Kirk [Cousins] did an excellent job of not forcing the ball. He had one forced ball that they dropped an interception on. But other than that, I think that he was sound with his decision-making. They just played good defense. We have to do a better job of trying to create some more running lanes to run it in there or find some better passes. Just keep working at it, but getting down there and getting three points and winning the game kicking four field goals isn’t the end of the world.”

On his biggest takeaways from the game after watching film:

“Well, I think just handling the momentum swings. Coming out fast and then seeing them score 20 unanswered points in a hurry, rebounding at halftime, coming back and putting drives together to get a tie game, and then obviously getting a late lead and holding the lead – which is very, very important to us. Any time you’re playing against a good football team like Minnesota, you’re going to have your ups and downs, but finishing the game the way we did was fun to watch.”

On if there is a way to level off the momentum swings:

“I wish. If you guys have that answer, I’d be glad to listen to it. There’s good football players around the league, and they’re going to make their plays. Good football coaches on other teams and highly paid players all across the league – and they’re paid to make plays also. So we just have to weather the storm from time-to-time, but do our best to keep our focus, keep our poise, and move on to the next play.”

On his tone at halftime:

“Well, I had to shut myself in my own room for a few seconds to cool down a little bit. I had to get my poise first, and then we had to just go out and rally the troops – coach them up, see what they were seeing on defense. Sean [McVay] and Joe [Barry] did a good job of preparing for the second half. That’s all you’ve got to do – say a few words and then we go out and play. But the big thing was keep your poise, go out there and shoot your guns and play the second half hard and good things will happen – and it did.”

On WR Maurice Harris:

“Yeah, Maurice has done an excellent job, and really he has picked up the system effortlessly. He’s a very intelligent football player. He’s a physical football player in the running game. What really drew us to him was we kept him because of his size and his effort during the preseason – then the first couple games of the regular season, scout team, he was killing our defense. He was doing a great job running routes full speed. He was taking every rep, and we decided to promote him because of his effort. We gave him an opportunity to play and he didn’t disappoint. Two big third down catches, like you said. He blocked in the running game and did a good job.”

On getting contributions from unheralded players like Harris, Nsekhe and RB Robert Kelley:

“I think once you get them in here, you have to give them an opportunity, number one. When they get an opportunity, they have to show that they can handle it, and those guys have shown that they can handle it. It starts in practice. It starts in the film room and making sure they understand the offense. Then you get out to practice, see if it translates to on-the-field success. Then you see how they handle the lights and preseason games – then you see it’s not too big for them. Then you throw more and more at them and see how they learn and pick it up. You pretty much can tell the guys that can pick it up and the guys that can handle it, and those two guys definitely can.”

On if the possibility of any players on the Reserve/Injured list returning:

“Well, I think Kory [Lichtensteiger] has an excellent chance – he’s doing better and better. Obviously Josh Doctson – we’re keeping a close eye on Josh. I saw him walking around today without a boot, so that was exciting, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

On RB Matt Jones’ role moving forward:

“Yeah, it’s difficult. Like I said, Mack Brown did a nice job on special teams and he was our third back yesterday because of that. Moving forward, we’ll just have to make that determination every week. You know, we’re not giving up on Matt. He’s a part of this football team, without a doubt, but on game day when you can only dress three running backs – we only do dress three running backs – the third one we would like to have some impact on special teams if we can. That’s not always going to be the case, week-to-week basis. Sometimes we may not need our third running back to be on special teams, we can get Matt up, so we just have to keep working with those guys. They’re both young football players, both very talented, and we like what we see in both of them but we have to make a decision every week and that will be week-to-week.”

On if he just focuses on winning the next game rather than looking at playoff positioning:

“Yeah, that’s basically where we’re at. We have to win the next one. We see where we are in our division and we’re a couple games back behind Dallas, who is playing extremely well. So that’s on our radar, number one. We have to figure out a way to catch Dallas and in order to do that we can’t have any hiccups. So we have to continue to play well. One game at a time, like you said, is a motto. Coaches’ cliché, but it’s absolutely true in this business. You can’t look ahead, you can’t look at your record and think and try to guess what’s going to happen each week. You just have to take care of your next opponent and that’ll be Green Bay coming here Sunday night.”

On the success of the scripted plays to start games offensively:

“I think it’s good planning. First of all, we get those plays repped in practice and Kirk [Cousins] feels good about them, that’s the first step. We’ve got to make sure we feel good about the plays and Xs and Os on the board are beautiful but the quarterback has to like them and feel good about them and he has… We’ve had a good changeup as far as the runs, the play-actions, the quick game, keeping defenses off-balance and then converting on some key third downs, you know. So, that’s important to keep drives going, so did an excellent job getting out of the gate, I think Minnesota hadn’t given up a first-drive touchdown all year. That was a challenge for our offense and we answered the bell and it was good to see.”

On if QB Kirk Cousins can be more assertive with what he likes when scripting plays:

“Oh, yeah, yeah. We go over everything with Kirk and we make sure he likes everything before we put it in so he has input in the offense every week.”

On K Dustin Hopkins’s ‘bounce back’ performance:

“Yeah, there was really no doubt. You know, I think he’s been excellent all year. He gave us no reason to believe that he wouldn’t do otherwise then to bounce back. It was great to see it though. He made the first one, the first two extra points, which are obviously… there are no gimmies anymore. And then the first couple field goals and then obviously the 50-yarder was huge. That was a big kick because that was a field position swing right there had he missed it, but he knocked it through, gave us a lead and then he made the last one to go 26-20. So, happy for Dustin, man. The snapper – obviously Nick [Sundberg] – did a great job and Tress [Way] did a nice job with the hold and the guys gave him protection.”

On the growth of RB Robert Kelley:

“Well, the first thing you have to like about Robert is there aren’t many negative plays with Robert. I think he had one negative play. He lost a yard and that was… it should have been a five-yard loss and he got a minus-one. There were other plays where it looked like there was nothing there and all of the sudden, second and seven. And those are huge. You stay on track as a play caller and it makes the game flow a lot smoother when you’re in second and seven, second and six, second and five, and that’s a great tribute to him. He’s a hard runner. I think he was more patient this week than he was last week. Ninety-seven yards against an excellent defense is a great stat for him and a great tribute to his running style. The line did a great job for him – tight ends also. It’s good to see. I think he’s just going to get better and better the way he plays, the way he studies, the way he works and Randy [Jordan] is doing a great job with him.”

On Spencer Long’s performance at center:

“He’s doing great, man. You just never know when you put a guard in there at center for the first time. You worry about the snaps, you worry about the snap count, you worry about the calls. There’s so many things that happen on game day that you can’t emulate in practice – the speed of the game, the tempo, obviously. And he’s handled it like he’s a 10-year guy. I mean, he really has. He’s been excellent. I think he’s going to be one of the top centers in the league for a long time.”

On Su’a Cravens’ expanded role:

“Yeah, I think you said it, his role’s starting to expand a little bit. And the more that he can handle, the more that he will do. And he’s got to prove it to us that he can handle it. He’s a great football player, he’s very smart. But, you know, one time you’re playing inside backer, the next time you’re playing nickel, and the next time, you know… We’re trying to slowly expand his role for us. He’s handling it very well, because he’s a great football player. He’s all over the place, plays with great energy.”

On Cravens playing outside linebacker on occasion:

“Well, he’s athletic enough to play in space and obviously he’s shown the ability to rush the passer. And he’s shown the strength to handle people running at him – big people running at him. He’s a very elusive target for those linemen to try to get their hands on him. He can wiggle his way out of a jam and play big despite his frame and obviously he can play fast out in space.”

On if he is beginning to prepare for the short week against Dallas or if he will ‘worry about that’ next week:

“Yeah, we’re starting to worry about that. We have to handle the schedule now as far as after the game Sunday. I mean, the schedule-makers did us no favors playing a night game on a Sunday and then having to leave Wednesday afternoon and play Thursday. That’s going to be a grind, and we have to adjust our schedule next week. This week will be the same. We’re going to handle it just the same. After the game Sunday night, we’ll talk about our schedule with the players. We’ll have to find a way to get the work in to get ready for Dallas, but now it’s all about figuring out how to beat Green Bay.”

On how he is feeling about the center position:

“I feel good, I feel good. And then getting [John] Sullivan from Minnesota obviously as a free agent was a big get for us because he’s a veteran guy who can step in there if something were to happen to Spencer, which obviously we hope doesn’t. And then Kory’s [Lichtensteiger] almost ready to come back also, so we feel really good about the center position right now.”
