Totally okay with either scenario. He might be too weird for even SF, but he might fit. If not, making the Dodgers overpay is fine by me. They'll just have to get extra ink cartridges for their printers. Assholes. And also, fuck the Dodgers.

I don't see anyway that he doesn't get paid more than Price either.

Greinke is two years older, otherwise, I would all but guarantee that he's going to get more. He's got better numbers.

I'm interested to see what he gets. I'm leaning toward more for Greinke.

The Cubs have a shitload of money to spend if they want to.

I think he did, just not the purse Dave has.

which makes me think he didn't. I mean out he goes and in comes Dombroski and immediately $217 for one player is out the door. Though perhaps ownership was being "cautious" after that whole A-gon/Crawford Mess

which makes me wonder if Cherington really had any "control/say" last year and in years past

Sure he did. This is Dombrowski's style, and they brought him here to turn the team around quickly. I just wouldn't bet on him pulling it off, at least not without leaving a pile of shit it his wake like he did in Detroit.

Dombroski has the say now it appears but i was talking about Cherington. Even since this is Dombroski's style doesn't mean he would be given the reigns right away... But then again why would he have been hired in the first place I guess.

They've finished last in the division two years in a row. That's a good incentive for ownership to make personnel and budget changes.

I'm saying that Cherrington had control, but he also had a budget.

You're right, they wouldn't hire DD to play moneyball.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Kershaw signed an extension. Greinke is an unrestricted free agent. Major difference. Their contracts shouldn't be compared and wouldn't be on a professional level.

In fact, Kershaw would probably love it if Greinke got a larger deal because he's got a opt out in a few years himself.
It'd just be weird to see Kershaw not have the largest contract on his team let alone on his pitching staff, but with how the Dodgers love to spend and after what Price got I shouldn't be too surprised if it happened. I'd rather him go to the Dodgers, Greinke on the Giants going into an even year? Might as well give them the WS now if that happens.

Greinke's deal is just going to be stupid, for various reasons.

He's a great pitcher, but he's on the other end of his physical prime, and will not come close to equating what he did last season, from a performance perspective, again.

If you truly believe that, you didn't really watch Greinke pitch over the last few seasons. He has impeccable control...unless throwing at, errr, against Carlos Quinten....and this season was very much Maddox-esque in his ability to add some, take some off, pinpoint his location, etc. Greinke is a pitcher with impeccable command and unless he develops a case of the yips, I don't see his production falling off too drastically over the next 3-5 years. Maybe not 1.66 ERA good, but certainly well enough to keep his title as one of the premiere aces in baseball. And I'm a Giants fan!

Man, imagine Bumgarner and Grienke at the top of that rotation. That is taking your rival's best pitcher and making him your own.

I still don't think that they will do it since they are in the tank for Cain's contract and I think they are just playing games with The Dodgers.

I don't care either way, but it would be fun to see a bitter rival sign away their best pitcher and whether he succeeds or fails would be a fun story either way.

BTW, If Grienke does end up with HOF numbers, what hat do you put on him? The dude is a straight up mercenary.

I'll hold off my laughs of derision until I see the details. I heard there is a 3 year opt out, but is that a player option or a team option?

He can pitch in the regular season, he can't pitch in the post-season, and 7 years to these 30 year old pitchers boggles my mind. Kershaw makes sense to sign to 7 years at his age. But 30 years for Price and 31 for Max...and they get 7 year contracts? Goodness.

However, I 'm REALLY hating these contracts because of what it will mean to get Darvish back in Texas.
