We have one of the best WRs in the game in Dez who hopefully will be healthy this year and back to where he should be. A clutch (yet aging), big spot TE in Witten. I love Beasley in the slot when he isn't asked to do more than "move the chains". Do we have a #2? Williams, Street? Do we have a TE waiting to take over for Witten? I think Dunbar (well obviously Romo is THE key) is one of the keys to this group. He was one our best 3rd down players for the few games he played. As we saw last year his explosiveness in the open field was huge for us when he was healthy. but is he healthy?

Sooooo,,,do we need another WR? Or do we just need Romo back? Or both...

No this team does not have a #2 WR. Witten, while still a (slightly) above average TE, is very long in the tooth, and his replacement is not on this roster - at least not in my opinion. Dez Bryant showed that he is not a top 5 WR in this league last year - top 10 I would say. I understand injury had something to do with it, but Dez did absolutely nothing without Romo on the field.

This team needs another WR. Romo will hide some deficiencies, but with Witten on the down slope this team needs another reliable target - and his name ain't Terrance Williams, or Devin Street.

I'll take the defensive stance on this. I think our current group of WRs is fine as long as guys remain healthy. Dez wasn't healthy for the majority of the season. Romo the same. So really, Williams played most of the year as our number 1. Street was lost as a number 2, had moments but was inconsistent. Beasley might have been the most consistent one all year long, mostly because his role never changed. It also hurt that we didn't have our check down option Dunbar which also slowed our passing game. I liked what I saw of Lucky too, just didn't get to see much of him.

I am always open to adding talented guys at all positions. WRs I would find competition for are Street and Williams. They both need to step up their games, especially Street. I try not to blame Williams for not filling the Dez role last year. I wish he would have been more consistent. The only TE that needs some competition is Escobar. He hasn't brought anything to this team that Hanna can't do. He just has a bigger body and presents a bigger target for the QB.

So at the end of the roster, I'd like to get some fresh faces to challenge those two (Street and Escobar). I would not draft anyone in the top three rounds for those spots, but its fair game on day 3. I like the WR out of Tulsa Keyarris Garrett - he reminds me of Dez. Makes acrobat catches in traffic and is a big dude to bring down. Looks like he has some strong hands and creates space down the sideline for the QB to lay the ball to where only he can get it. I haven't seen many TEs I like in this draft. The Harvard TE Ben Braunecker is a low rent option. He likes to play physical but he is not a big bodied TE like Witten or Escobar. He is built and plays more like Hanna. We also have to keep in mind we brought in Swaim last year. Have to give him a shot to earn a role too.

not sure about Street but like everything I'm reading about Brice Butler

maybe a draft day addition on day three....not a top concern

I think Williams and Beasley pretty much suck. Once either Romo or Dez went out, they did nothing. Zip. I think any success they had the previous year was a result of double teams on Dez and Witten and an extra man in the box against Murray.

I get that point of view, but our QB play stunk: Dez didn't do much even when he played. Who would have thought the best of the bunch ended up being Weeden. Seemed to me after watching the season play out that the reason he never went down field was more due to play calling and his coaches hamstringing him than his actual play.

But, I agree 100% that a good QB and running game makes every receiver look better. Open up the field a little and wonders happen. You don't even have to run that well, just make them look for it. That is why for years I was calling for this team to run more, A LOT MORE. And good shit happened when we did...

I had/have hopes Street would/will be a true #2 those hopes are waning, as for TWill I think he's OK as a 2 but will never even fill in as a 1, he's more like a 3.

I have to disagree about Beasley. I think he can be very good and it was obvious he and romo were starting to really click. I feel Williams is much better when romo is in. Everyone sucked last year after romo went out as QBs and wr's had little time to get familiar with each other. If romo stays in this year I expect a much better result with them. imho

give me Braxton Miller , Kolby Listenbee , that would fix a bunch Miiller is not a 1 but he has the talent and I think could develop ala dare I say it Drew Pearson big shoes but similar paths to the NFL Miller has the tools just needs the reps IMHO

But Dallas needs some speed at WR that can catch the damn ball opposite DEZ.

Loved what Butler showed at the end of last season. He is supposedly bigger, stronger, faster than WIlliams and he catches with his hands. Romo seems to click with WIlliams though especially in the red zone. As far as the draft- I would love Pharoh Cooper. It looks like he will be a mid to late 3rd.

Yup, another guy in the mix. But it seems there is a different guy like Butler every year...

I want to see Butler with a good Romo. It's gonna be hard though for another guy to emerge. WItten rarely comes off the field so we hardly ever have 4 WRs out there. I have never been real high on WIlliams but with Romo and Dez he seems to play his role fairly well. Honestly to me our number 2 WR is our 5th option. I rarely ever see WIlliams catch a 3rd down pass. Normally he catches balls when his specific play is called.

I thought Beasley dropped some passes that he didn't the year before. I don't think he kills you, but an electric guy in the slot would make a huge difference for this team IMO. TWilliams is hot garbage

IMO, I think Beasley is as good as any slot receiver in the league at getting first downs. He can make that 5 yard catch an 8 yard gain to get the first. He isn't a red zone threat and he isn't explosive. He does what he does very well. He finds the soft spot with his quickness as good as Witten does with his size. He also has great hands. But, his upside is clearly limited. He's never going to be a top WR or an outside player. This is why he shouldn't be a starter, but rather a 3rd down specialist. He has had a very high percentage of his catches here be "important catches".

Pharoh Cooper would likely be a slot. He reminds me of Cobb/ Hines Ward.

he did drop balls and is susceptible to a fumble now and then.
good role player with limitations

completion is a good thing and you never know when you might upgrade the talent
slots, 3rd down backs, nickel backs, kick returners should all be challenged yearly

I don't think we are in the right spot to pick him. I think he did visit last week. His 40 time is the question. I'm expecting 4.5. He is a very explosive 4.5-4.6 guy though. I think you see some really good team take a chance on him in the second or he could last to the 90th pick.

when your QB can't throw more than 12 yards down field Dez's value drops.
