4 superconferences with 24 teams each. You play half of your division each year and half of the other division. No OOC. Then, whoever has the easiest schedule advances to the CCG. Perfect!

The conference championship games will act as defacto first round playoff games.

This is the best part, if true. I've thought all along that, if CFB dwindled down to four major conferences, that the first playoff game, in theory, is the conference championship. It gives all teams the ability to compete and keeps any one conference from getting too powerful. It's good for everyone.

Sounds like the proverbial "first domino" is about to fall

I don't think that VT ends up in the SEC, personally.

Considering my next door neighbor is a huge Sparty fan and his neighbor is a huge Penn State fan -- I'd be totally cool talking in-conference shit with them on the regular

... but the Big 12?? Fuck that. I'd rather stay put if it's feasible.

One more tidbit.

It is my opinion and the opinion of my source that the team and conference who are having this secret meeting today will NOT end up together, but the meeting itself is the catalyst.

So Texas is meeting with the B1G or ND is meeting with either the Big12 or B1G.

I've started reading between the lines and have an idea of the major points of what may be coming down ... as long as VT is OK, I'm OK

as far as the BIG program who might get left out ... Maybe they'll be getting what they deserve ... but I don't see any program like that being left out in the end ... It'll be interesting to see things unfold

That halves the number of FBS programs to 64.

4 SC's of 16.

That's what I have been saying for a while. There aren't even 64 teams with a real legitimate shot at the NC now. Dropping the bottom half of FBS should be just fine and gives those schools the chance to win a NC in a different sub-division.

4 SC's of 16 should be fine.

8 Divisions of 8 teams each
Division winners play for Conference championship
Conference champs playoffs for NC game

No voting. No polls. You win or go home.

Does that mean the "best" team may not win the NC? Sure. But that is how every other sport does it and it works fine.

I wonder what the odds of basketball schools like Kentucky that are already in power conferences getting left out?

No offense 46, but I don't buy this for even a second. You can feel free to laugh at me if you are proven right, but I don't buy for a second that the B1G would allow this. The only way I could possibly see it happening is if the B1G and Pac-12 merged, but that is an awfully big geographic hassle.

If it's done right, shouldn't be any question in my opinion. Conf champ players will be based on:

you play every team in your division
1. division/conference record
2. head-to-head tie-breaker

That should pretty much take care of it .. the only drawback to something this simple and straightforward is that there is no incensive to schedule decent OOC games at all. Much better than the current system though. You win or go home << what's wrong with that?
