Rex might be a decent player, but Herron and Peerman have more experience. Bottom line. Unless Rex does something that really separates himself from the other two, he's on the outside looking in.

I love how people see a rookie play parts of, possibly, one of the most meaningless games, and then spout about how they'll be on the roster.

If we've learned nothing about Marvin/Mike, we've learned that once on the roster, it takes a boatload of stuff for you to get off the roster. Re: Brandon Tate.

I rest my case.

But you all act like Herron has all these games he has played when he has not.... ok I will take it a step further... I GUARANTEE Burkhead makes this roster.....If Im wrong you all know I always man up...Herron will not be on the 53 just because he blocked a punt....LOL....

Hey, Jwill...

two words...

one name:

Odell Thurman...LOL :)

Again, rest my case...don't get so caught up over 1 pre-season game.

I'm not saying Herron has "All these games". I'm saying, he has more live game experience in which to fall back on. Against actual starters, and not a bunch of guys who will be bagging my groceries in another few weeks.

I just find it amusing that so many people love Rex.... He's easily destined to become the new DeDe.

Dede was undrafted. And Dede was too small to take the NFL pounding. I don't see any similarity, here, Marv.......:fencing:

You know I'm going to continue to use him against you...LOL

It's all good.

Good competition, one way or another, makes for a better team.

I hope Rex has a hell of a pre-season. Staying or going, he'll make the team better.

4 carries for 5 yards
0 catches for 0 yards
4 tackles on special teams

Dan Herron is so game experienced I don't even know what to do with myself. I mean with those numbers, I don't see how he is not giveing BJGE a run for his money.

I mean you can go a step further...Herron has more game experience than Gio does, so I guess Gio is a bit behind the 8-ball here also.

Herron just does nothing well. He is an average player. Hell Rex may only be an average player as well, but we have potential with him still. I don't see Herron getting any better. Besides, you have to have the one designated white boy on the RB core to ensure you follow the equal rights policy for hiring diversity! :laugh3:

I am just kidding, but still, I like Rex more than Herron. Rex will not survive on any practice squad. You may as well just cut him now to give him a chance to learn another teams playbook if you do not think he can make it. Herron has a much better chance of staying a practice squad before Burkhead does.

Here is why I think we keep Burkhead over Herron.....

Herron can still be stashed on the practice squad and more than likely will not be picked up. Burkhead will not survive on the practice squad...so you can afford to keep both players by keeping Burkhead and sticking Herron on the PS.

Each NFL team may keep up to eight members on its "practice squad" in addition to the 53-member main roster. They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons, he is eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment, or have no prior accrued seasons in the NFL (an accrued season is six or more games on the active roster); or if he has accrued a year of NFL experience on a club's 53-man active roster. If the player was on the active list for fewer than 9 games during their "only Accrued Season(s)", he maintains his eligibility for the practice squad. Games in which a player is listed as the third-string quarterback (a designation that has been abolished as of 2011) do not count as being on the active list. - Herron meets these requirements still.

Love the infatuations that people get over 1 practice game.

Not that I like herron any better. Just saying that, if you know nothing about Marvin, it is that it takes a lot more than a good pre-season to unseat someone who has more experience. Even if it is only a little.

I also know Marvin does not like cutting a guy the same year he drafts him. Unless he is complete crap in training camp and preseason, Marvin doesn't cut a new pick until he has proven he doesn't belong.

I mean, he saw the numbers, and yet he still drafted Burkhead instead of trying to fill an area of need in the depth chart. He could have made a pick that had a good chance of making the team as a backup. Instead he went Burkhead because the value was too great to turn down at that point. Therefore, I think Herron and Scott are on the outside looking in. They have to have ridiculous preseasons in order to stick around in my opinion.

Burkhead/Peerman/Herron

all about the same to me.
We've seen what Peerman and herron can do, it might be time to give someone else a chance, but burkhead has had time in camp to show if he's special or not. He did ok in week 1, but he'll have to give a barry sanders type performance for Marv and company to notice.

Why do you think Burkhead is better than Herron? They had very similar college stats, rushing and receiving, and Herron actually had a better draft grade than Burkhead. They are basically the same size and Boom is faster than Rex. The only real difference is NFL experience -- In this case Boom has already displayed the ability to be a key piece on special teams.

They only have remotely the same stats and draft grade because Burkhead missed most of last year with an injury. Burkhead would have been a 3rd-4th round grade had he not got hurt.

Burkhead is far more talented that Herron. Had nothing to do with 1 game. He has deceptive speed, very quick, has some power, catches the ball very well, can block, has the versatility to come in as some FB. I'd keep Burkhead over Peerman.

I like Peerman also. I just think they need to go 5 deep at RB this year instead of 4.

This is simply not true. Rex was a 6th round pick. Other recent 6th round picks under Marvin:

Boom Herron (Practice squad)
Ryan Whalen (Practice squad)
Dez Briscoe (Practice squad)
Morgan Trent (I think he made it)
Bernard Scott (Made team)
Corey Lynch (Practice Squad)
Matt Sherry (Who?)
Matt Toenia (Who?)
Reggie McNeal (didn't make it)

Herron missed approximately the same amount of games in his final college year as Burkhead.

I think Peerman is already the next DeDe Dorsey.

Peerman has been one of the best ST coverage players we've had in the past 5 years. Once Marvin started keeping a few guys that could actually play ST, our rankings have improved and it's become a strength. As a runner he's limited -- Just like the other two 6th round guys, Boom and Rex.

Burkhead was viewed as a much better player than Herron in college, at least from the reports I have found and the way I remember it.

BTW.... Let me put this out there, so when Rex is a star we don't have some jackass reposting this every other day!

I hope Rex is a stud. I hope he outperforms Peerman and Boom and makes the team (that would mean we upgraded the team). I'm just skeptical that he's better than our other backs.
