My guess is Kirby was pulled because he was doing well and they wanted to end his first start on a high note before the wheels fell off.
That is why I got in a debate with a Mariners writer when they left Brash in an inning too long in his debut. Take him out on a positive not negative,

Haniger and Lewis are both guys that can spark the batting on this team and allow roster coverage to send Kelenic and others down to get work. Won't fix all of their issues, but would improve the team enough to not have this type of stretch.
The next worse thing in relying on rookies to rescue you is relying on injury prone guys to do the same. I guess if you have enough rookies and injury prone guys you can combine them for one solid player.

My favorite stat shown was that Mariners have lost 10 of last 11 and France had ZERO RBI's in last 11 games before today. Meaning if France don't knock em in they ain't winning. He knocked in the winning run right after that stat was shown.

They definitely need more than that. Just having either would at least put them in similar shape to last year. I think we would take that over what we have seen lately.

I'm tired of seeing all of these guys basically try to hit a home run every at bat. Their approach and techniques are all wrong and no one is doing anything about it.

This was the main concern with not being active in FA. I know they got Ray but pitching isn’t the issue. And I’m late to the party on this but why is it they are trying to turn Brash into a long reliever? I get sending him down if they want to convert him to a closer/high leverage guy but it’s weird to give up on him as a starter already. Servais kind of screwed him on his first few starts then ya he struggled but so did Gilbert last year. Seems an issue is Jerry bet this whole season on all of the younger players becoming all stars.

Lauch angle - exit velocity - number of home runs - .OPS% etc etc

The high batting avg singles hitter is a thing of the past. The new game is 'swing for the fences' and 'who cares how many strike outs ( and RISP stranded ) as long as I get my 30 something HR's this season'

Once the shift is abolished in the next year or so a transformation back to spraying the ball around and hitting hard ground balls that actually make it past 3 infielders on your pull side may bring about a change in some hitters philosophy and approach.

It pains me to watch 'skunk head Suarez' swinging for the fences with a runner in scoring position when a simple base knock plates him. He has just 1 swing: ALL or nothing. Hank Aaron hit over 700 HRs and not a single swing he ever took looked like he was swinging for the fences.

spot on

France ( and Crawford ) was the main reason for the early season win %. yea he could never keep up that off the hook pace, but the Mariners hot start was a house of cards that any one with a little game knowledge could fore-see a quick / sudden collapse. Julio needs to be in the 3-4-5 hole all season. he makes consistant contact and sprays the ball around enough to plate alot of runs given the at bats with RISP. His K ratio is dropping and he is getting himself into much better hitters counts this series at home.

If you remove the overall stats when he was getting %^(#$ on the called 3rd strikes, he has a pretty decent batting avg and is improving all his offensive stats each series.

Julio's HRs will come along and his rbi totals will be right up there with France - Crawford - Skunky if they keep him in the 3-4-5 slot for a few months / all season.

Julio Rodriguez is quietly hitting .309 over his last 15 games with his strikeouts going down quite a bit... He has struck out 27% of the time over his last 15 games... League avg is 25%... Progress is all you ask for and that's what we're getting...

He's been getting hits - there just wasn't much traffic on the base paths over those last 11 games... Looks like he had hits in 9 of those 11 games... But to your point, definitely doesn't look like we're going to win games at this time unless France is hitting with RISP...

They say they want to turn him into Diaz, but they are to different pitchers in my opinion. I see Brash as a starter and had no problem with Diaz moving to the pen. It makes very little sense to me this soon. But it is Mariners, so...

Well with Diaz they actually converted him. With Brash it doesn’t seem like they are converting him to closer, just long relief or maybe an eventual opener type role. It’s just weird getting sent down because they want you in the big leagues in the bullpen but then have his toss a couple of innings each time.

This next part is straight ignorance because I wasn’t a pitcher but is it really hard to convert a struggling starter into an innings eater in the big leagues? I know you have to change your routine but it doesn’t seem like a real routine change from starter to opener/long relief. Switch from starter to set up/closer is a whole different type of routine but his game play since being sent down it doesn’t look like he is the 9th inning guy

One of the writers said looking at closer type role. Who knows. It is all stupid. Stud starter last year. Stud starter in spring training. Stud starter in his MLB debut. Blink eye, now reliever. So Mariners.

You don’t even have to go back to the 2018 season. If you just look at last season, in April and May they thought Montero was a viable pitcher and he cost them at a minimum at least 3 games.
And now he's doing amazing for the Astros of course

Is he really, I honestly have no idea. If true then damn because he couldn’t have made most AAA teams.
