What Ray Rice did was terrible, but the media coverage of the story and the NFL's punishment seems excessive to me.

It is sort of hilarious how Roger Goodel created a policy last week that would suspend those guilty of domestic violence (first offense) for 6 games.

Why then was Ray Rice's suspension 'indefinite?'

It definitely seems like a PR move from the initial backlash of the light 2 game suspension. Because it was caught on camera the whole story has been turned into a cultural mandate on domestic violence. It shouldn't be.

The act itself is horrific. But the guy hasn't had a single on or off the field issue his entire career before now. Not just a clean record as far as domestic violence, but just a clean record in general. He's worked things out with his now wife who was able to forgive him. An 8 games suspension would have ruined his reputation, cost him millions of dollars and at his age probably cost him a huge chunk of what's left of his career. He definitely needed counseling as well. That seems fair to me

TMZ says tomorrow morning they're going to release evidence that the NFL did see the elevator video.

What do the Bengals and Ravens have in common??

They both had their seasons ruined by a hit on Palmer.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Wow! Are you implying that since she stayed in the relationship that she doesn't deserve any sympathy? You do realize that thousands of women silently suffer from domestic violence while maintaining an abusive relationship. There are hundreds of potential psychological reasons this happens - Blaming the victim is ridiculous.

*does the Johnny Manzeil famous "give me the money" sign*

My wife would have cut my balls off in my sleep, divorced me and taken my kids 1000 miles from me.

I have a feeling Janay is in it for the long haul thanks to the Benjamins.

Yes, I know that thousands of women live in abusive relationships, and since her fiance was a celebrity, got caught, and was publicly abused by his actions, she had a clear window to run and would have gotten everyone and their brothers help to steer clear of Ray. Ray wouldn't have been able to touch her, and that is if you believe he is the type of guy to gut his woman if she leaves him.

Most women, their husbands are not caught on tape, some are criminally insane, and they have no help. I feel for women in those situations and wish we could help everyone of them.

Janay was clearly capable of leaving Ray right then, no one would have blamed her, everyone would have helped, and Ray, being a celebrity would have the light on him at all times. The likelihood t hat he had any power over Janay would have been washed clean the second he was caught on tape, and ostracized on national media. Janay didn't leave for 2 possible reasons: 1) she is after the green, and as a fiance she was owed nothing, 2) it was not an abusive relationship just a f'd up moment that looked like both let their anger get the most of them.

On the video, she hit him before they got on the elevator, he must have said something on the elevator, she came after him, and he popped her. Bad judgment on his part seeing how he is a celebrity and that fact he is a professional athlete who is very strong. he could have killed her with a blow like that. He deserves what he gets, but I am not feeling real sorry for Janay here.

You don't know the first thing about either of them..... And not all women that stay in abusive relationships do so because they are scared. Every situation is unique. Yet, you make a judgement based off of a stereotype (goldigger) that you think applies here without any knowledge of the situation. I don't think you need to feel sorry for her for staying -- But the idea that she deserves no sympathy for the stress this media fiasco has caused is cruel.

I didn't say I didn't feel sorry for her in the respect that the media has hounded here almost as much as Ray. I said I don't feel sorry for her in the respect she stayed with a clear path to leave the relationship and would have had everyone in the nation on her side.

Yes, every situation is different, and I am an outsider looking in, same as you. How do you know that she is not a gold digger? You freaking don't, same as I don't have evidence that she is not. So we can both assume shit and both think we are right, but at the end of the day, neither one of us know a damn thing about their situation or who they are as people.

How do you know that Ray Rice is not the kindest, most gentle lover and man, but for some reason, a brief second, he zoned and let his emotions override his judgement and made one of the dumbest mistakes of his life that he regrets every second of every day? Why should someone like that not be given a chance to come back into the league, to move past this, to make it up to his now wife every day on their terms without the media poking their noses in it?

Until you personally know these two, and know what they think and feel, anyone, not just you or me, have no room to speak, but everyone and their brother is going to make assumptions, so pardon me if I take your criticism with a grain of salt my man.

I don't know anything. That's my point. I never said I knew anything. I never assumed I knew anything, nor compared their situation that of my own life. I simply said you didn't know (and meant to imply that I didn't know). You judged her to be a gold digger. You wrote it yourself.

Uh oh..... Law enforcement is now saying they DID send the video to the NFL and they have proof.

What are the odds that Roger steps down? I have it at 4-1, but it's shrinking by the day.

The burden of proof is always on the person making a claim or assumption out of the norm. That would be you.

That law enforcement source also played a voicemail from an NFL office number for the Associated Press. In the voicemail, a female voice confirms receiving the video, expresses thanks for sending it, and says, “You’re right. It’s terrible.”

I will be glad to see him go. It's on the owners now.

Everything I read suggests the owners love them some Roger and will do everything they can to protect the guy. This is all coming from the assumption that the owners love him because he was the guy in charge when the latest 'owner friendly' CBA was negotiated. The truth is that they probably stand to make a shit ton of money with the next television contract regardless of who is the commish..... And they might do even better if they can collectively convince the public that they won't continue to employ a guy that was already universally hated by the public and will now be even more hated. While I still think it's more probable he stays, it wouldn't surprise me to see him forced out.

If there's conclusive proof he lied about this he's done

You'd figure there has to be proof somewhere, right?

The idea that the NFL did not see that video is pure comedy. It's a multibillion dollar business. They spend excessive amounts of money for their security arm to investigate potential players and potential issues. I suppose the only thing that would stop the proof from emerging is the NFL's deep pockets..... Cover ups are messy though - You'd figure the truth would come out sooner or later.
