Ravens weak defensive secondary crumbling - quite a loss.
This almost assuredly puts an already stronger Pittsburgh team ahead of the Ravens.
Can the Ravens fall to the bottom?

Is he a big loss? I was under the assumption that he wasnt living up to his potential.

Ravens top scorer out for season. Couple with lose of Smith, they are bottom dwellers for sure.

This is a little of what I was thinking. If I remember right he even got benched for a bit last year because he just wasn't playing up to potential. Not sure this is as big of a loss as the OP wants it to be.

Mmm, who? Sorry but you posted Elam and I thought Jason Elam for the Broncos (thinking he was still somehow in the league as a kicker) lol.

I think the Ravens will be okay with that loss. Still VERY early too. The injuries in the 3rd-4th week of preseason are the "OOOOOOHHH!!!" ones. He's also a safety on a team that is not safety ridden. Earl's PUP for Seattle is HUGE because that whole defensive scheme relies on a safety that can play sideline to sideline. Not so much with Elam.

You are correct, Ozzie said publicly that they needed him to play better this year or else.
He was getting burned by rookies in camp so no biggie, I think he would have been on the bench by the end of pre season anyway.....Southie is just hoping for injury because he fears the Purple and Black... :D

It's probably addition by subtraction. From what I understand was solely riding on his draft status at this point.

Jernigan did a great job the last 4 games of the season and getting into the playoffs while Ngata was suspended, and they are high on him in camp saying he is a disruptive force....Brandon Williams is another player coming on strong.... Feelings are we are in good shape with these guys.....
We'll see .

Elam was one of the weakest parts of the secondary last year so I don't know how you can say this was a big loss. I still had high hopes for him to develop into a good player (like Jimmy Smith, he didn't play so well his first few seasons either), so unless the safety play is atrocious this year I think he's done here.

As long as the secondary stays relatively healthy, they'll be ok.

Exactly correct. On a good team he wouldn't even have been playing the last 2 years:thumb:

He could start only for the RAvens

I'm pretty sure Will Hill and Lewis were/are the Ravens starting safety's. I mean not to rain on your "wish" parade but Elam was fighting for a 53 spot and had been personally called out by the GM.

So far a Elam only starting for the Ravens u must be joking. I know u aren't suggesting NE has its chit together in its secondary? bc u and I both know u have no clue what that will look like til Ben R. Gets hold of them game 1.
