Who is the greatest Bronco safety - would be a good topic - for the same reasons.

I loved Brain Dawkins, but he was a All-Time Great Eagle ... I wish we could have had him from day one

You say that but he loves Denver .. He lives in Denver and still comes to practices .. He is friends with the players and talks of himself as a Bronco ... same with Lynch though I think he lives in his home town still SD

Steve Atwater is the only one that has a chance at the HOF .. I think Dennis might get there but that will be a long shot as old time type of thing ..

Steve Atwater easily.

Steve Foley is up there as our all time leading INT member, but Atwater is the best ever at S.

Hard to put Dawkins and Lynch in there they weren't bad here and great team leaders but we got them a little past their prime. Which is still better then most S's in the NFL. :)

Loved Dennis Smith, but I don't give him any shot to make the hall. I would surely be happy though, but shocked.

Very good player.

Regardless - which player makes it to the HOF - I thought Dennis Smith was a better all around Safety than Steve Atwater - Atwater - was average at best in pass defense - Dennis Smith was a great defender and a great tackler.

Now - I will say this - Steve Atwater made three of the top plays I have ever seen as a fan - there was his sky jack interception in his rookie season - the tackle of the Nigerian Nighmare and his play in the Super Bowl. Yes - he deserves the HOF and maybe Dennis Smith doesn't, still Smith was a better all around Safety than Atwater.

I am not sure I would call Dennis Smith "great" in coverage as you couldn't put him in man to man nor could you Atwater. Better cover S, yes!

Another CB I forgot

Chevis Jackson barely played but he was here.

I've been very surprised at the play of Mike Adams away from Denver. He looked like a solid back up here but he has actually looked very solid as a starter after he left here. I think we just kept hoping Rahim "The Dream" Moore would become a great Safety and he just never could get over the hump of being anything but average.

Yeah Adams was always a dependable guy here. He's turned into a ballhawk with Indy.

Seems like we maybe misused his skills with how well he has done for the Colts. We wanted a ball hawking Safety and Rahim just didn't have the instincts or speed to do it. Given though Del Rio's scheme isn't one that is great at generating turnovers. At least not like what we have now! Wow do I love seeing all these turnovers. 10 through the first 3 games with 10 sacks to go with it is something that hasn't happened for the Broncos in a very long time.

I'm not sure we misused him as much as the scheme he is now in. Adams is in the cover 2 now where he can sit back and read.

Mingo and I use to talk about Adams all the time. He wasn't fancy here but he was pretty dependable. Didn't make plays but didn't make mistakes. With the S's who played here previously it was an upgrade but at the same time we were always looking to upgrade those S spots... Adams was repalceable here, but the sorta S you'd have loved to keep around as your3rd S. Now Bruton is that guy. Don't want Bruton starting every game, but if you need him to come in and fill a role he usually gets the job done. Adams was more polished then Bruton in coverage so not exact same thing but you get the jest!

More S's
