It is up to the Rangers to try or not, but we should go ahead and accept the "reality" that we won't sign one of those type of guys.

unless you are JD or one of the owners you just have no clue that that is true so your view of "reality" just doesn't convince me one bit

my view is that if we don't do something to make the 2015 competitive we will see Darvish opt out after the season is over

A few days ago, Grantland’s Ben Lindberg wrote a progress report on some of the top prospects in the minor league system.

He mentioned the Rangers’ Michael Choice, a candidate for a September call-up, as someone who needs to improve while playing for Triple-A Round Rock.

On Saturday night, Choice did go 2-for-6 with 3 RBIs as Round Rock split a doubleheader, which extended his hit streak to four games.

Lindberg writes Choice is not improving, and this isn’t strictly his opinion.

Another evaluator was more blunt: “He is almost 25, has been poor in the PCL, hasn’t done a thing in the big leagues,” he said. “Can’t hit, can’t field. Is he anything more than a platoon up-and-down guy going forward?”

In 42 games, Choice is hitting .265, you expect better from a man who was on the Rangers' opening day roster but just struggled to remain with the big club, having hit .177 in 69 games.

Choice had one of his better games on Thursday with three hits including a 11th-inning homer in a victory at Salt Lake.

Darvish cannot opt out until after 2016 and that is only he meets the requirements, which he has not yet done.

1) If he wins the Cy Young in one year and finishes in the “top three or four” in the balloting in another of the first five years of the contract.
2) If he finishes second for Cy Young in one year and in the top three or four in the balloting in two additional years.

These are the requirements.

I'm not sure. I just don't think he'll be around for very long. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Saban ends up there eventually.

Doubtful. That's wishful thinking on Texas fans part. He has zero incentive to leave Alabama.

I agree.....why the hell would he leave the Crimson Tide for another college job?

Can't see it ever.
