In just 61 ABs DeShields is now 2nd on the team in walks and has a .405 OBP. Compared that to Martin's 130 ABs he has half as many walks and an OBP of .246. On top of that DeShields has stolen 11 bases in 12 attempts to Martin's 6 in 9 attempts. So his walks or singles are like doubles.

Hopefully the kid keeps it up, I just expect those numbers to regress a bit as pitchers start to study him more.

Always possible, but like I said, his eye at the plate is what impresses me. He doesn't even think about offering at a lot of the junk pitchers try to get him to go after. His BA may regress, but if he still walks and steals bases he's go to be productive.

Speed and OBP at the top. I'm assuming that's the reason. I don't think switching them will have an effect on Choo.

I hope it doesn't but his splits really suggest it could... I mean maybe if he was moved 6th but that's a pretty small sample:



Overall, he has 73 ABs at lead off with .315 average. Everywhere else, he has 64 ABs with a .140 BA.

To validate your point the offense as a whole has been more productive with Choo at leadoff and DeShields has been a perfect #2 guy.

I called Delino in the 2 spot, but I like him as the lead-off hitter too. 10 ABs in the 2 hole while he was in a huge slump isn't going to sway me. Time will tell.
