I really do not envy CY and the position he is in. He knows he shouldn't be a buyer. He probably know he should be a seller. It will be extremely difficult to do the right thing. He probably feels he has to do the wrong thing, and that is very understandable.

The schedule makers really messed him up by having that White Sox series at just the wrong time. On top of that, both Seattle and Houston slumped at the wrong time. CY must feel like he has encountered the perfect storm.

He will be a buyer knowing full well it is a mistake. He will look back on that mistake and regret it for several months. It will be hard to blame him, though.

Duran has 4 hits in the game concluding from last night. Crim has 3. Harris has added a second double

I agree with what Tepid says here:

"Kohl Drake with another good outing today for Hickory. He’s not in BA’s or MLB Pipeline’s Top 30, but I have a tough time thinking Texas has 30 fellas with a better chance of getting to the big leagues than him."

Mariners are up early and the Astros are down early.

The Rangers bench is terrible along with Taveras. Send Taveras, Grossman, Jankowski , Kninzer pacjing. Call up Duran, Huff, Harris , Crim and Jung.

That should not be a difficult decision for CY.

It’s not hard for me to blame him for the bench. The Grossman trade was asinine. Signing Kninzer was a terrible move. And not DFAing made it worse. Ornelas was no where ready to be called up. Jankowski as been just as bad as Kninzer.

Lack of a good bench has hurt us more than some realize

From Jon Morosi:

Detroit's Andy Ibáñez is one name to watch amid the run on right-handed bats in the trade market.

Ibáñez has a 1.021 OPS in 90 PA against LHP this season.

This was a shortened 7 inning game tonight. One of Crim's hits was a HR.

Shawn McFarland wrote an article about who the Rangers could target. This one seemed like the best fit.

The excelling rental

Washington OF Jesse Winker: Winker is a 30-year-old on an expiring contract and the fourth-place Washington Nationals only signed him to a minor league deal in February. He’d be, by those standards, a relatively cheap options despite an .845 OPS vs. right-handed pitching (the 34th-best mark in baseball).

His 15.1% walk percentage against righties is the seventh-best leaguewide. His on base percentage (.390) ranks 13th. He hardly chases pitches out of the zone. Think of him as a version of Robbie Grossman that excels vs. right-handed pitching instead of left-handers. He has a strong arm and would likely see time in left field or at designated hitter if Texas were to acquire him.

He wouldn’t cost as much as Rooker — both financially and assets-wise — either.

Jesse Winker is being traded to the Mets.

From a Mark Feinsand article about trade candidates:

Elias Díaz, C, Rockies
fWAR: 1.0
Adding a catcher at this time of year can be tricky, but for clubs seeking help behind the plate, the 2023 All-Star Game MVP is the best option available. Díaz, who is headed for free agency and is owed about $2 million for the remainder of the season, has a solid bat and strong defensive metrics.
Potential fits: Pirates, Rangers, Yankees
