If Botchy wants to play percentages with Left / Right at the top of the lineup then switch Harris for Pederson. The 37 million dollar mistake should not be anointed to bat third.

Smith became just the second player in Rangers history to start at as many as seven different defensive positions in the same season. Danny Santana started at seven in 2019, though he didn’t start at his seventh spot until game No. 125.

Both Ezequiel Duran last year and Scott Sheldon in 2000 appeared at all seven positions, but didn’t start at all of them

The start in right field came in place of Adolis García, who has been struggling this week and was given his first off day of the season. It was Smith’s first career start in right.

Even though he appeared there briefly in spring training, he’s so unfamiliar with the position that he wasn’t sure what it was when he was texted the lineup Friday night.

“When [bench coach Luis Urueta] texted the lineup, I had to ask Wyatt [Langford]: What position is ’9′," Smith said. “It was kind of funny. But it’s been pretty crazy. Just a new spot every day. It’s pretty cool.”
