We transferred to Hawaii from 1963-1967 and then Cape Cod from 67-69 then to Texas so I lost track of them. I was a Claude Osteen and Chuck Hinton fan. While in Hawaii the Cardinals beat the Yankees 4 games to 3 and in one of the games Ken Boyer hit a grand slam and Cards won that so during that time I rooted for the Cards. Had to listen on my transistor radio. But all that changed when the Senator's came to Texas.
I believe when they announced the Senators were moving here, I was almost 9 years old. My older brother and I had been baseball fans since about 1968 when I was 5 years old. We always like the Twins because our first 2 baseball cards in 1968 were both Twins, Dean Chance for my brother and Harmon Killebrew for me.

We used to get out and the backyard and pretend we were the Twins. Chance got hurt right after that, so we switched to the Reds because our newest baseball cards were Bench and Rose. We even made a sign to put on what we used as our fence in the outfield, that said "Rose Garden."

Then when the Rangers came we became the Rangers when we played. Finally, in their third season here, my brither-in-law took us to our first game, Bat Night at the old Arlington Stadium. It was against the Orioles and Brooks Robinson. Brooks was one of my favorite players by then. We saw Jim Bibby defeat Dave McNally that night. Brooks had 2 hits. The Rangers won 4-2.

The whole narrative that Carter can’t hit lefties is complete nonsense. It’s true that he doesn’t hit them as well as righties, but he still put up very respectable numbers against lefties in the minors.

So at what point do we start letting him see what he can do vs. lefties? Next year? Or is he going to be relegated to platoon status for the foreseeable future? How do you know he can’t hit major league lefties unless you give him a chance?

Is a tight pennant race with 6 games left really the best time to "see what a rookie can do?"

What we need is Semien, Seager, Grossman, Jung, Garcia, Garver, Lowe, Heim & Taveras to come hard and drive Detmars out early and then yes we can see what the rookie can do

There seems to be a lot of confusion around the internet about the tiebreakers, and magic numbers.

Also worth noting that I don't think Carter can be on the postseason roster, so there's reason to want the guys who will to get some reps in

Yeah I watched that WS that put him on the map with me. PreRenger times.

Sad part of my childhood magic died today. Remember when WS were mostly day games
I remember when the O’s play the Reds in the 1970 World Series. They couldn’t anything by him. He made some unbelievable defensive plays in that series.

If he was on the 40 man prior by Aug 31, he can. Also the Rangers can petition mlb to add him.

And you really think giving Evan Carter instead of Robbie Grossman a few at-bats against Reid Detmers is going to be the difference between playoffs and no playoffs? As if somehow Evan Carter is going to be a disaster at the plate suddenly?

Yeah, ok.

I thought that Seattle would be eliminated by any combination of Texas wins or Seattle losses totaling 2
And Houston would be eliminated by any combination of Texas wins or Houston losses totaling 4.
As of today

Yeah, ok.

I could just as easily ask "you think a couple of AB against LHP tells you anything about Carter's ability to hit them?"

Schmuck.

You’re more confident about it than me. According to the rules a player has to be on the roster on September 1st and Carter was added on September 8th

If Detmer’s has reverse splits then why doesn’t Grossman bat from the left side. Wait, that’s too unconventional even for baseball in 2023. Maybe one day ….
