heard the concerns were with both Olt and his vision issues and Ramirez and his arm
If this is true (I am not doubting you) then this deal will prolly not get done anytime soon and perhaps not ever. JD seems pretty sure about keeping all the other usual trade suspects. Also means that other teams will point out similar concerns with other trade attempts JD floats.

according to mlbtraderumors:

•The deal was held up because the Cubs had some questions about one of the players they were getting in return, writes T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Major League sources say the questions weren’t major but “fair” concerns and the two sides are still considering alternative ways to make the deal. There's no word on which player brought about a red flag but Sullivan notes that Mike Olt was been dealing with some vision issues earlier in the season and pitcher Neil Ramirez, who has also been mentioned, has been working through minor shoulder issues.

In my personal opinion, I think there might have been more of an issue with Ramirez than Olt....yes Olt was dealing with vision issues to begin the season, but I feel like he has gotten past that now. In his last 10 games, while his BA is only .258, his OPS is at .917 with a couple of HRs. The strikeouts are still an issue, but I think they will always be an issue and I think his power potential will overlook his strikeout rate. I still think he can be a career .270 hitter and mash 30+ HRs/year. I will say that I think his most glaring stat concern is his lefty/right split, this year he is batting .286 vs. lefties but only .161 vs. righties and that could be a big factor for playing time in once he gets to the majors if he cant figure that out.

Looks like the Garza trade is dead, which seems to mean JD will probably wait it out till the offseason as far a SP. :L

@JeffWilson_FWST: Doesn't look good now. As Jon Daniels often says, though, a deal could be the next phone call away. @darrylgann Garza trade dead, Jeff?

Just an assumption on my part, but more teams are definitely involved. Above is a tweet Jeff Wilson sent me.

yeah with other teams involved I just dont see JD getting into a bidding war for Garza and with no one else real great available, I think u are right about waiting til the offseason. I do think we end up with a solid RH bat before the trade deadline which would be of great help and who knows, maybe when our rotation gets fully healthy we might not even need to make a trade.

It's not dead. Other teams are just involved again. The cubs want to move him before his start tomorrow so they're taking all offers now and will probably accept the best one late tonight or early tomorrow.

With them wanting to move him before his start tomorrow I don't see a huge bidding war developing.

Well, never mind. Sveum said garza is making his start tomorrow 100%. JD won't play games. He'll walk away if theo doesn't get his ass in gear.

At least in the off season we will have Garza as a FA and Price in the mix for a year rental, amongst others. But that won't help us this season. A bat we can still get for this year. Have faith in Ogando, less in Lewis, even less in Harrison.

yeah i really thought the only reason they were trying to trade him before his next start tomorrow was so they didnt get the same result they did last year when they were trying to trade him and then he got injured and didnt pitch the rest of the year. Thats the only reason I see the rush in trading him, but i think they would be smarter to wait til closer to the deadline.

we would actually get price for 2 years if we traded for him....I think the Rays will be looking to trade him this offseason, very high value for him and they try to cash in on that with their players. they have a ton of arms that they can easily plug into the rotation, granted not the same talent as price, but talent nonetheless. He has to be our #1 priority this offseason......but if we dont add quality depth this trade deadline, I dont see us making the playoffs unless our injured guys come back and pitch well right off the bat.

It may be too late waiting for Lewis and Harrison just to pitch for us. Ogando will help, I just hope he remains healthy. Price well definitely mean throwing in Profar. It's hard enough for us getting a two month or so rental.

I dont think its too late for Lewis and Harrison they should both be back by the end of next month and if we can hang in there til then, I think they will be huge additions for us. Hopefully Harrison can regain his form from last year, I do worry that Lewis wont be able to handle the innings anymore, he might be a candidate to move into a long relief role but he is a bulldog in the playoffs so if we can make it there he would be huge.

And for Price, yes it would def. have to include Profar among others. I am guess they would want a variety of guys, INF, OF, P, CI..... Maybe something like Profar, Perez, Brinson, and a low level guy.

I wouldn't count on either one.

The Cubs have have worked to draw competing offers into the Garza bidding in order to create alternatives to Texas, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney.

even so, having a healthy rotation of Darvish, Holland, Ogando, and Perez with hopefully finding a serviceable 5th starter isnt too bad. I think that could hold us til the stretch and I feel Harrison should be ready by the stretch. If he can get some rehab starts going soon and not have any problems, he could really help us hit our stride down the stretch. He has started throwing bullpen sessions so that is good news in the right direction.
