The Rangers won the division in each of Banister's first two seasons, including winning 95 games in 2016. So I'm not sure that's a strong comparison.

I tend to look at the combined 6 game playoff losing streak to the hated jays over those 2 seasons. JD also helped banny by going all in both years pretty much. Those rosters should‘ve produced some playoff success and we got not nothing.

I think woody is a much better manager than banny was. Banny couldn’t manage a bullpen, sat guys when they were hot, and gave way too many good players the day off on getaway games simultaneously where it pretty much tanked our chances to win.

if you want to say that Woodward is a better manager than Banister, fair enough. But to say that a last place team is more resilient than two division winning teams seems bizarre to me, especially when you add the postseason into the explanation.

the postseason is a different animal. Short series and tougher competition. Again, this isn't a defense of Banister. There is a lot to analyze and criticize about him as a manager. But using the 2021 Rangers to do it makes no sense.

If you were going into a Division Series, would you take the 2021 Rangers with Woodward over either the 2015 or 2016 Rangers with Banister?

I think maybe you are letting your disgust over those two playoff series color your opinion of both managers. Those teams Banny managed were in over their heads against the Jays. They probably shouldn't have even made the postseason.

If Banny was a rotten manager, which I don't think he was, that wouldn't say anything about Woodward. Woodward is not a very good manager and that has nothing at all to do with Banister. One piece in the rebuilding plan needs to be the manager. He is probably doing nothing to hinder our rebuild, so there is no hurry to replace him, but at some point he probably needs to go unless he gets better himself.

Overall, I have not been thrilled with any of JD's hires for manager.
