They are 2 or 3 games from that coveted 2nd WC. Loads of games left against the Marlins and Nats. Guess they are trying to give themselves a chance. Harvey is the only pitcher that is out for the season. They still have Matz, Degrom, and Thor and Barfolo Colon. I believe Wheeler is not far off on his return.
They probably wished they had kept Murphy even though he is a bum on defense.

So far, among the "contenders", the moves read:
AL
Baltimore acquired Wade Miley
Boston acquired Drew Pomeranz and Fernando Abad
Cleveland acquired Andrew Miller
Texas acquired Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez

NL
Washington acquired Mark Melancon
New York acquired Jay Bruce
Miami acquired Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea
Chicago acquired Aroldis Chapman
Los Angeles acquired Rich Hill and Josh Reddick
San Francisco acquired Eduardo Nunez

So far, Toronto, Detroit, Houston, and for the most part Texas and San Francisco have stayed on the sidelines. It will be interesting to see if any of them take the plunge here in the last 3 hours.

Thought a couple of their guys had bone spurs and were out, but they have Wright out and Asdrubal injured his knee again last night I believe and is probably going to be out a significant amount of time too. I didnt realize it was only 2-3 games, they could still win that second WC spot and it appears they could still be in on Lucroy.

  • Adding Jay Bruce doesn’t take the Mets out of the race for Lucroy, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney tweets. Milwaukee is seeking infielder Dilson Herrera in a deal, per Rosenthal (via Twitter). A package would also still include catcher Travis d’Arnaud, as has long been rumored. Perhaps that ask is what leads Jon Heyman of Fan Rag to tweet that New York’s interest is “on life support” at this time, though.

Really quiet on the SP front lately. Perhaps silence means a deal is working for the Rangers.

Don't worry, BB will trade them off for some mediocre players next year or on the off season.

Looks like A's Billy Beane not done. Seems everyone but Gray is negotiable.
