Because he veto'ed the CLE trade because he didn't want them to pick up his option year since he will be leaving so much money on the table. He wants a new deal at market value, understandably.
Part of the reason he wanted this was due to their commitment to another catcher as their starter for next season. If they picked up the option, not only would he be playing below market value, his value as a FA in 2017 would plummet. This makes perfect sense to me, and I call it logical/practical for him to have made this decision.
