In terms of his salary, I think you guys are a bit off when it comes to labeling his contract as a bad one. After this year, he's owed around $75 Million over 3 years (with an option for a 4th). That's less than James Shields signed for with San Diego and Hamels is a year younger and a better pitcher than Shields. Plus, even if we were to get 1-2 great years out of him, we would only have to eat bad salary for one season. So as far as salary goes, getting an ace for 3 years at just under $25 Million is not bad at all.

Also, as far as how he fits in, that shouldn't be a question mark either. He's an ace. He is better than anyone currently on the team. You "make room" for a guy as good as Hamels. Having a legit ace is never a concern. We don't know for sure how Holland or Perez will return. Maybe Harrison's career is over. Maybe Wandy starts pitching like 2013-2014 Wandy. Maybe Colby has to go back on the DL. He isn't getting any younger. Plus there's the big question of whether we secure Darvish long term. If he bolts, wouldn't it be nice to have a legit ace to carry the staff for the next couple of years?

*** Obviously though, all of the above hinges on what Philly would get in return. I'd be ok parting with one or maybe two of our better prospects, but if they will only settle for a massive overpay, then I would say no way and just roll with what we've got.

Salary and team fit, Hamels is great. Trade cost? Maybe, maybe not.
If they would be willing to spend that much on an ace I don't see why they haven't pursued one in free agency at that cost since Lee left. With Hamels they have to spend that much money and 2 or 3 very good prospects so I just don't understand why they would do that now.

I believe they were very close to that price point in their offer to Greinke.

Hard to get one to come here. They tried particularly hard to get Grienke a couple of years ago. They all seem to site the weather. Also tried to resign Lee.

Based on where this team is now what Hamels would cost, I would assume not take on that salary AND give up future talent for a team that's playing (IMO) above their head right now,

I've never said he was overpaid BTW, I'd rather continue an internal rebuild and for that plan Hamels doesn't make sense

Surprised no one has mentioned that despite Beltre being back, Gallo remains with the big club.

Choo out with back spasms... give it a couple days and I'm sure a decision will be made between Gallo and Odor

High hopes, just trading one guy would change the whole dynamic of this roster & create massive flexibility

Too bad he's not very tradeable right now.
