MLB Power Rankings: Which red-hot division dominates the top 10?

5. Texas Rangers

Record: 22-14
Previous ranking: 8

It's a different hero every week for the still-in-first place Rangers. This time it's outfielder Leody Taveras, who delivered in a big way over a seven-day span ending Tuesday -- going 11-for-23 (.478) during that time frame while getting on base well over 50% of the time. It's been a different story for the Rangers on the mound, as closer Andrew Heaney gave up nine runs in 11⅓ innings over two starts. He's been wildly unpredictable in his first year with the Rangers, giving up at least two earned runs in five of his seven starts for a 5.25 ERA on the season. Without Jacob deGrom, Texas will need more from its pitching staff. -- Rogers

Nice to see ESPN showing some respect to the Rangers (typos be damned lol)

doing well ( or just ok) against the AL east could decide the division this year. Those games could end up being very important and an all out war.

Top 5 Draft prospects for '23 among best ever?

"Crews, Skenes, Langford, Jenkins and Clark all would be candidates to go No. 1 overall in a typical Draft. The best crop of Draft talent in recent years was 2011, as David alludes to. I was still at Baseball America then and we rated the top five prospects as Anthony Rendon, Dylan Bundy, Gerrit Cole, Danny Hultzen and Trevor Bauer -- but Hultzen and Bauer weren't really candidates for the first pick.

This is the best Draft top five of at least the last decade, based on how the prospects were regarded at the time. Its strongest competition comes from 2019: Adley Rutschman, Bobby Witt Jr., Andrew Vaughn, CJ Abrams and JJ Bleday."

10 biggest surprises so far this season

10. Who needs deGrom and Seager?

If you were concerned about the Rangers signing Jacob deGrom -- and many were -- it was likely not because you didn’t think deGrom would be good, but that he would be both: a) unavailable; and b) not enough. Didn’t this team have more holes to fill than ace? Well, apparently not: Despite deGrom making only six starts in the early going (which isn’t bad for him, though it'll be at least a few more weeks until he returns) and Corey Seager barely playing at all because of injury, the Rangers are in first place! The offense looks particularly deep, and it’s led by Marcus Semien, who looks like an MVP candidate again, and Jonah Heim, who has emerged as one of the best hitting catchers in the game.

I was looking at an article that The Atletic had this morning about guys on struggling teams who could potentially be traded. Only two relief pitchers who were mentioned, seemed remotely attractive for us to acquire, based on performance this year. They are Buck Farmer and Scott Barlow. Maybe Chapman as well -- maybe. I sure hope some more good relievers become available between now and the deadline.
I must have missed this article. Yes a closer looks needed but wondering within a years time if we can fill from within. We have guys that are capable but inconsistent IMO or just need work to be ready

Also maybe trade some MIF depth for an up and coming pitching in the minors.

This why I am very intrigued by Bradford. Rangers need to keep him and test him at the MLB level

We might have to part with Acuna for a good closer.

Yeah, I was wrong about the article. It was from Feinsand.
