Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus this year. Lotsa quality from the mid 1st round into the 3rd round, but very few blue chippers.
A lot of the mid 1st rounders are a bit riskier than normal. Josh Simmons, Will Johnson, Luther Burden, some edge rushers with character issues.

A lot of DTs. I think McShay or someone else said there are about 7 more DTs than normal within the first two rounds. They seem relatively safe, too, so I could see teams just grabbing them early and often.

I think the Rams needed a plan after Stafford regardless. This just forces their hand probably a year earlier than normal.

Jimmy G. Draft a rookie. Thats my guess.

There are maybe only 4 blue chip prospects and like 40 red chip prospects. I dont expect much trading is my first takeaway.

I need to get a feel for the board draft mock, assuming it's happening again this year lol.

Until I see Stafford somewhere else, my assumption will continue to be a re-worked contract for at least the next 2 seasons with the Rams.

I don't see him as a guy that would want to go to Cleveland/NY/Vegas and play for a struggling franchise for a small raise. These are all just negotiation tactics.

He's already making that. Of course he wants at least that in a restructured/extended deal.

His cap hit for 2025 is just short of $50M, and $53M+ (nonguaranteed) for 2026. Of course, a lot of that was paid up front in bonus money in terms of actual cash due.
He ISN'T already making that, and that's the issue. Those cap numbers are due to previous seasons money paid that the team has delayed accounting for. It's NOT due to 2025 money being paid upfront. He's due $23M plus a $4M roster payment in 2025 and $26M plus a $5M roster bonus in 2026 on a placeholder contract. Both Stafford and the team want a 'real' contract sorted out early rather than dragging things out into preseason as happened in 2024. It should be straight forward, but I don't expect the details to be announced until late May when all of the team's other cap details are finalised. The 2026 salary is unlikely to be guaranteed.

Since we have a lot of Ohio State fans on here, I was always under the assumption that Jack Sawyer was the dude at Edge but he seems more of a late 2nd rounder while the other Ohio State Edge JT Tuimoloau sounds more like a late 1st rounder.

To the Rams and the league, the cap hit is essentially the same in terms of building a team this year and next. That is my point. With the Giants and Raiders reportedly offering 2 years and 90-100M guaranteed, seems like an easy match or starting point for a 2-3 year restructure.

He got his money early, which shouldn't be a bargaining point for needing more for this season. Guaranteeing more of his contract moving forward is (understandably).

Sawyer came on this past season (and was likely the better prospect as far as star/ranking) but I'd say over past few seasons JT was much more productive.

Just looking at Sawyers profile he seems like someone who can set an edge in the run game but his arm length and lack of bend probably means he wont get pass rush production as a conventional 4-3 Edge type without Nascar on the inside or stunting.

No. The Rams signed Stafford to a 2 year deal for $89M with a placeholder 3rd year at $35M. The 4th and 5th years were effectively bogus years for cap purposes. The Rams paid Stafford $89M over those 2 years, (they just didn't account for all of it - which is normal in the NFL).

This is pretty much the same with what they did with Goff's extension when his contract had a ridiculously low $25M salary as his final year. It was a placeholder year. Aaron Donald's 2nd contract included a final season at $14M, which was about half of what he was expected to be worth. It was a placeholder year. The Packers signed Love to a 2 year prove-it extension which would have paid him $14M in his 2nd season. He wasn't expected to play that 2nd year for $14M - and he didn't. The Dolphins signed Hill to a 3-year $75M contract with a placeholder 4th year contract at $45M. Hill was never going to be paid $45M for that year but it allowed him to say it was a $120M contract at $30M per year as an average, (when it was really a $25M average).

Stafford was never going to play for the $23M he's scheduled to earn in 2025, (unless his play had deteriorated significantly). I still don't think there's much of a story here. Both sides pretty much know what he's worth. If Stafford wants to play somewhere else or retire the Rams will accommodate his wishes.

sounds like they used the open market to set his wage.
Instead debating back & forth between Stafford & the Rams.

I mean havent seen any #'s or anything, but sounds like the Raiders & the Giants got used as the Rams/Stafford bartering chip.
