Rumors are circulating that the Rams are just dotting the I's and crossing the T's and will hire Nate Hackett as OC. To me this isn't surprising as he is a "wear down the defense" type of coach and this fits Jeff Fisher's scheme. There were mixed emotions in Buffalo, some liked him, some didn't. As a Syracuse Orange fan and watching him there under Doug Marrone, I think this hire could be an interesting one and just may pan out. This is why I listed him in my previous OC thread. Stay tuned!

.....Here is some interesting facts concerning Nate Hackett. The Bills were 18th in scoring in the NFL in 2014 at 21.4. They were 4th in points allowed at 18.1. The +3.3 differential was 12th in the NFL. Although it is not a conclusive stat, the Bills were pretty good in QB passing & rushing TDs/turnover differential. Orton was a +6 (19/13) and Manuel was a +3 (6/3), so Hackett’s scheme protects the ball pretty well. For STL, Shaun Hill was a +1 (9/8). The top QBs have a TD/TO differential in the 20s, with Aaron Rodgers regular season being the best at 33 (40/7). Russell Wilson is at 19 (26/7) and Tom Brady at 21 (33/12). Some notable QBs with TD/TO results worse than BUF’s +9 are Cam Newton at +6 (23/17), Colin Kaepernick at +5 (20/15) and Andy Dalton at +4 (23/19). RGIII had a -5 (5,10) and Geno Smith a -2 (16/14). STL was 21rst in scoring in 2014 at 20.2 and 17th in points allowed at 22.1 for a difference of -1,9, 21rst overall in the NFL in 2014. An offense that scores more TDS with fewer QB turnovers will benefit the defensive production.

Sounds and looks like a middle-of-the-road kind of guy with a famous father and on-board with Snisher. No threat to Fisher as far as potential matriculation to become the HC if Fisher were to be fired. Looks like they may have their man.

I don't care who the guy is as long as he's better than schotty.

He would fit perfectly with Fisher as he ran a run first/play action type of offense in Buffalo. He had a run of bad luck with injuries to key players like Spiller, Fred Jackson and (in 2013) Stevie Johnson. If we give him an offensive line to protect Bradford I think he will succeed here with the weapons in place now..

Side note, one of those weapons, Kenny Britt is close to an extention! :suds:

Seriously, as a Bills fan, give us a perspective. Did the fans like what he was doing or was it a lot like we were with Schotty?? From what I saw, when everyone was healthy, the offense performed fairly well.

He didn't perform well but EJ was his QB and he had injuries to his back. My problem was he was so vanilla. I don't know if that was because of having EJ/Orton back or not but after every half it seemed like the defense knew what was coming and also the red zone offense never improved.

You also have to put it in perspective too. Gaileys offense was square peg in a round hole and the defense was just terrible. So things were bad when Marrone took over in that time on defense you saw the young guys on defense get better and better and guys we the fans have written off as busts like McKelvin actually look like NFL players while the offense improved a little but not where you want it to. I blame that on coaching Pettine and Schwartz maximized the talent they had to me Marrone and Hackett didn't do that on offense, but it could have just been the defense became so good it over shadowed the improvements we did have on offense. I rambled a bit so I hope that made sense.

Kinda sounds like Fisher is only diving into the "good ol boys" side of the OC Pool aka guys with a name that has (alleged) pedigree. Suprised that he never even asked permission to talk to Munchak.

I suppose he might be able to convince Fisher to simply cut Bradford and go with someone else at QB... maybe, possibly... NAH :pound:

Sounds like exactly what's going on in STL now. Defense has improved, offense has shown some promise at times and needs a lot more improvement.

Problem with that is Fisher himself does not like to be aggressive. That, my friend, is the rub. I admit that even though he has ZERO NFL experience, I was hoping for Josh Heupel for the simple fact that he has a connection with Bradford. Heupel took an OC job at another college yesterday (Utah St I think)
