One year, 1.4M deal

Does this mean Watkins is off the table?

I think so.

Well, Fisher has said all along that they like their WR's.

I think the Britt signing is just in case Quick fails to take the leap.

Paying Britt what they are means they won't feel compelled to play him unless he is better than some of the other WR's and if he gets in trouble, he's gone.

I could not disagree more retro. Like ALR said, with what they are paying him it is essentially a training camp tryout and if he performs and stays out of trouble, it is a bonus. Britt has talent. More talent than all but 2 of our current WR (Austin and Bailey). Low risk, high reward..

Would have preferred Jackson though.

Only $550,000 of that deal is guaranteed. That says all you need to know about how far he has fallen. Obviously, he couldn't get a substantially better deal elsewhere. He picked Fisher and the Rams because he feels he has a better chance to make the rest of the 1.4M with the Rams.

Low risk, high reward. Same one year strategy used with Carrington, Field, and Hill.

If last year's wide receivers perform and stay injury free throughout camp, Britt will be cut.

This signing in no way precludes the Rams from taking Watkins at all.

I like it. Low risk high reward signing. If he doesn't work out then we cut him. It's a good thing to have a little insurance. I djnt think this changes our strategy come draft day. If we signed D Jax then I would say we don't target one

I don't mind the move, small money, 1 year for an experienced receiver. Training camp will be the tail of the tape on him but the Rams will have to decide on Watkins first and maybe they already have:L. It might just be that Fisher is going defense with #2 and #13.

This shouldn't change their decision on Watkins. It's only a one year deal; would you skip adding a top young WR for potentially the next decade just because you signed a free agent for one year at $1.4M? Seems ill-advised. If anything, Britt is Quick insurance.

I think they signed Britt to be a practice player in camp. I still think they'll sign Watkins. Britt has had 3 knee surgeries already. Also DUI.

Not necessarily. Why can’t they sign Britt and draft Watkins and let some others go. Their WR’s weren’t THAT good last year. I not upset about the signing because it’s only one year and they are not paying him that much. However it does depend on which Britt they get. The guy who averaged 17.48 YPC with 12 TD’s in his first 31 games or the guy who averaged 12.16 YPC with 7 TD’s in the next 26 games. For the money it may be worth taking the chance.

My bad. He had 15 TD receptions in the first 31 games and only 4 in the last 26 games.

I've read elsewhere where fans think the Rams would now be locked into OT and DT possibly in the first round. If signing Britt to a one year deal eliminates Watkins from consideration, why wouldn't signing Carrington to a 1 year deal (and already having Langford) eliminate DT from consideration? People just want to manipulate signings to reinforce who they want out of the draft lol.

1 year contracts shouldn't eliminate anything from consideration IMHO, WR or DT (or QB for that matter, just not on day 1).

Yeah I'm sure it depends on where they end up picking with that first pick. If they stay at 2 I just have a feeling it's going to be Matthews. I think Fisher is going to have a hard time passing on him no matter what.
